Several times in the last few years when taking off from a stop about 4 seconds into travel the transmission disengages and the engine races. If I was expecting to get though an intersection while traffic was coming into my path of travel I would be in their way and possibly struck. It happened again today. Thankfully I had full right of way and not in anyones path of travel. I had to let the engine wind down, shift to nuetral and back to drive to get going again. I was in the middle of a left hand turn and behind other vehicles that were all traveling about about 5 mph.

My 2018 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost experienced cam phaser rattle/failure at 72,000 miles. The vehicle never received the 21B10 PCM reflash, and Ford Customer Care has denied any goodwill assistance. The cam phaser noise is a known widespread defect covered under Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03. I had the repair done out-of-pocket at a Ford Dealership because I was fearful that catastrophic engine damage would occur if left un-fixed, leaving me stuck in the roadway. I Request that this be logged for investigation and future regulatory review.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the front driver’s and passenger’s side doors fail to latch securely while attempting to close the doors during freezing or cold weather. The contact was forced to warm up the vehicle for approximately 15-20 minutes before the doors would latch properly while closing the doors. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle for the failure, and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 82,743.
Driving at 50 mph, and attempting to accelerate - vehicle lost all "power". pedal was "to the floor' and no response from the truck. could not accelerate to get up to interstate speed. multiple attempts were made, with big hesitations then hard, surging engagements, as truck attempted to shift. more than once the accelerator was applied with no response. RPMs didn't even rev, just nothing from the vehicle. had to slow down to get the truck to engage into a gear, eventually catching and able to hold 50. slower acceleration over time and was eventually able to get up to freeway speeds.
Problem Description: The rear sliding window track on my Ford F-150 has detached / become loose, causing the window to rattle, misalign, and leak water into the cabin. While there is a TSB (SSM 50337) for window rattling, my truck’s issue is more severe, creating a potential safety hazard if the window detaches while driving or allows water damage to electrical components. Additional Info: •Occurs under normal driving conditions •Photos/video available for review •This issue may affect other F-150s with sliding rear windows Desired Outcome: Investigation and determination if this defect warrants a recall or service bulletin to prevent safety hazards.
The long block has failed This has caused the vehicle not to allow for accelleration and have significant power loss. Yes this has been confirmed by the dealer. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer at this time. Two days before I took my trunk into the dealer for service, the service engine light came on. I parked my truck and did not drive it til I called the dealership. They told me to drive the truck slowly to their service department. I drove my truck to them after confirming it was ok. They are 6 miles from my home
I was driving along and the truck shifted out of gear. Throttled to high rpm’s and went back into gear causing me to temporarily loose control and it repeated itself 2 more times before I got it stopped and towed home.
The day running lights don’t work at all and researching online there are hundreds if not thousands of people with similar issues. F150’s 2015-2020 having the same problem. This is not caused by misuse or neglect but factory defective components. These headlight are almost $1400
The truck suddenly jerks into gear and lurches forward even sometimes after taking foot off the gas. The transmission has issues shifting at low gears, known to ford, and these present in situations like parking lots and at red lights. It creates a safety hazard when operating at low speeds.
I have a 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4, with the current odometer at 61,500 miles. What component or system failed or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission exhibits severe torque converter shudder/vibration. The torque converter and transmission fluid are original to the vehicle and are still installed. Yes, the vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request at any time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While driving at highway speeds (40–65 mph) under light throttle, the truck suddenly begins violent shuddering/vibrating that feels like driving over rumble strips. This causes the entire truck to shake, momentarily reduces engine power, and makes steering and braking feel unstable. The shudder is strong enough to blur the rear-view mirror and has occurred in heavy traffic and while towing, creating a serious risk of loss of vehicle control. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The shudder has been reproduced on multiple test drives by me and is identical to the symptoms described in Ford TSB 22-2219 and earlier TSBs for 2017–2020 F-150 10R80 torque converter shudder. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet formally inspected by Ford for this specific failure, but the symptoms are identical to thousands of documented 10R
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
At 53k miles, the transmission began skipping gears, not shifting at all and while driving down the highway at speeds of 65+, I could see the transmission attempting to go from 10th gear, down to first. The transmission wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd, and eventually only go into first gear. Not shifting was very dangerous especially when turning left across traffic. Several times I was left stuck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic speeding towards me. It never happened, but had the truck shifted from 10th to 1st gear at 65 mph, that could have cause catastrophic failure. I had to take the vehicle in for repair and they found the transmission was completely ruined. It cost several thousand dollars to repair and Ford refuses to provide any compensation.
Truck was in golden auto electric for transmission replacement and wheel bearing replacement. When the truck was purchased from rightway auto of Gaylord there was a bolt missing from left side wheel hub assembly. Wheel hub assembly and transmission was replaced. An oil change garage informed me that there was a missing bolt on wheel hub assembly that was replace
2018 F150 2.7L @ 118,000 miles - Intermittent check engine light kept popping up about 1 month prior to this event, which was addressed at a mechanic, repair and replacement of spark plugs attempted, but not solved. DTC codes indicated a misfire on Cylinder 6. One day I was driving at highway speed when vehicle began to shake uncontrollably with check engine light flashing and audible alarm. Vehicle was put into "reduced power" or "limp" mode and side streets had to be taken in order to get home. After evaluation by 4 mechanics, all reported the cylinder had lost compression and that one of the intake valves on the cylinder were likely the problem. Ultimately, a Ford dealership was the one who performed the engine replacement and also agreed it was likely an intake valve. I am reporting this after seeing numerous intake valve recalls for Ford engines of similar years since my event occurred. I am not attaching, but am happy to provide invoices and diagnostic quotes from all mechanics.

At 66,000 miles I had to rebearing the Transfercase, and rear differential. at 88,000 miles I had to put a metal oil pan on it, because Ford used a two peice Plastic one.. they leak. Now I have a bad yoke off the transfer case,AND, the rear springer hangers are cracked on the welds. This is structural failure,..Ford is aware of the proplem ,because they offer a repair kit. I bought this truck new and it has never been wrecked.. Ford doesnot want to fix it..My complaint numberis 11698591. Thank you. [XXX] .. Started vehicle could not move the wheel to turn towed it to a repair shop said it was not reading any codes it eventually let the wheel move again called ford service centers and they told me not to bring it in and if it doesn’t read codes and the vechicle steering does not lock up for them nothing they can do. I see this vehicle has had recalls on the steering issues but not my vin number was told don’t drive it or take your chances . The truck has low mileage and steering should have never locked up so hard that I am strong could not turn the wheel kept trying for hours till it would move shakes when driving jumps all over the road sloppy steering and I’m told no code can diagnose what the issue is with steering ?
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission was slipping out of gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle, and no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle hesitated, and the contact saw smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road, exited the vehicle, inspected underneath the vehicle, and saw automatic transmission fluid leaking onto the exhaust pipe, causing the smoke in the rear of the vehicle. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
Splash guard under the vehicle, sometimes also referred to as a diaper, fell off. I reported it to the dealer and was told I didn't need it anyhow. Well, if I didn't need it anyhow why did they put it on to begin with ? I also notice a lot of other Ford vehicles driving down the road with these guards (diapers) hanging down, so it isn't just a me problem it's a Ford problem. After inspecting the guard it is made of such cheap material I don't know how any engineering designer could of thought that these would hold up given the environment under a vehicle especially a truck. I would also think that this could easily become a road hazard.
Transmission issues including, hard shifts, shuttering, slipping and truck won't move, random shifts in gears 1-7, erratic shifting from gear 7 to any of the lower gears. Major safety concern especially with children in the car and getting caught in intersections and road crossings and the truck won't move.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and turning to the right, the vehicle lost motive power. No warning light was illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact stated that the engine was revving, but the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be driven later but was jerking while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
While operating my vehicle, I was unable to drive due to transmission failure. The vehicle would not go into gear. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership for repair. The repair has been completed by Ford and was a complete transmission replacement. I am not sure if the failed part is still available for inspection. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to this occurring.
According to the mechanic, the cdf drum on my 2018 F150’s 10R80 transmission slipped past the retaining ring or lack of a retaining ring causing 5/10 gears to fail. Replaced the entire transmission with a remanufactured one.
Transmission started failing below 50.000 miles . Truck was out of warranty but a transmission failing at that low of mileage is unheard of. transmission was clunky, unresponsive at times when just starting to drive up an incline. severe downshifting and upshifting at various speeds including highway speeds. Hard clunking sounds, rattling chain type sounds. Truck was unreliable and dangerous to drive. Finally, I had to bring it to the dealer where I bought it. Price for repair was astronomical ,close to $10,000 . Complained to Ford corporate and they were able to bring the price down a bit to $6800 with tax. The Transmission in question is model 10R80 with a long history of failures and repairs. Considering all the complaints on this model Transmission there ought to be a recall on it. This is a safety issue for all occupants of vehicles as well as other people and vehicles on the road.
Transmission has been clunking/shifting hard and occasionally slipping out of gear. Recently it slipped out of gear while turning through a busy intersection. My truck lost acceleration momentarily which could have caused the vehicle behind me to rear-end me or crossing traffic to hit me. Apparently there are WIDESPREAD issues with Ford's 10R80 transmission. I took my truck in to be inspected and was told I needed a new transmission with upgraded parts due to excessive metal in the transmission fluid. My truck is only 7 years old with 71,000 miles on it. Ford knows their transmission is a problem and hasn't issued a recall. And they did not offer to help cover the cost of the new transmission which totaled $9,645.19.
REAR CAMERA not operating for last 1+ years. Ford dealer on 6/17/2025 diagnosed -- Recommended replacing REAR CAMERA ($730 for camera replacement on top of $221 already paid to diagnose). Initially REAR CAMERA operated intermittently, then occasionally, then for last 1+ year totally inoperable. Why not covered under massive Ford REAR CAMERA failure recall?
Ford F150 2.7L Ecoboost was running fine. Went to dealer for PCM recall and 3 days later check engine light came on. Went back to the dealer and they say I have a PO430 code now and that I need a catalytic converter at the tune of $3000. Of course I am 8000 miles over the factory warranty of 80000 miles and the extended warranty I bought does not cover it. Seems not right. Is the any help with this issue? Shouldn't Ford be responsible?
I have a 2018 Ford F-150 with a 3.5L Ecoboost engine. In October 2021, I received a Customer Satisfaction Program 21B10, 21N03, and 21N08 notice of a software upgrade to reduce the engine cam phasor rattle on engine start up. This was a limited time repair notice. Unfortunately, I thought it was a recall notice and did not act on this upgrade until a few weeks after it had expired on July 31, 2022. When I called the local dealer a few weeks after this date, they stated they would not perform the upgrade free and instead would charge me. I also had a mechanic state that this issue was not required and recommended I not pay for this upgrade. Even if I had performed the upgrade, it doesn't sound like it would have necessarily fixed the cam phasor issue because thousands on Ford customers have complained. Over the years, the engine "rattle" noise has gotten worse, the engine has been harder to start, and the engine surges at highway speeds which is a "safety concern" since I no longer feel safe driving the truck because it feels like it will "stall" at any moment. When I took the truck into the dealer on September 3, 2025, they stated there was not warranty recall for the cam phasor issue even though this was documented by Ford Motor in the October 2021 Customer Satisfaction Program stated above. They told me it would cost ~ $5,600 to fix the issue. I do not understand how there is not a recall on this since Ford Motor knew they had a defective cam phasor design in their 3.5L Eco
-Auto stop/start system failed and is available for inspection. I was driving down the road and braked for a vehicle about to pull in front of me, when I let off the brake and pushed the gas I noticed the vehicle had shut off there was an error message on the information center, Error message: "Auto startstop shift to P, then restart engine" -I could've been in an accident due to immobilized vehicle -Vehicle taken to dealer. Was told the failure was unlikely to be duplicated. Was told to unplug(deactivate) auto stop/start system to hopefully avoid recurrence. -No -No messages or symptoms prior to failure.
Hello, WE have been experiencing downshifting and slipping of shifting with our Ford f-150 that has 80k miles on it. This has caused us to loose power on the road thus putting us in an unsafe position with other drivers. WE have reached out to our local dealership where we purchased the vehicle and found that we need a new transmission. When researching this, we found that there are alot of Ford f-150 owners the same years as ours that have the same situation. We are concerned that this is not a recall. It is obviously a safety issue for drivers and others on the road.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while in reverse(R) and attempting to shift gear, the transmission jumped from 1st to 3rd gear, and there was a hesitation while changing gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission was slipping and needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Backup camera stopped working around 07/2025 and now starting 10/2025 it will work when it wants to but its not clear it will be distorted.
The truck will randomly downshift to when driving steady on the highway. The truck will also skip gears and stutter transitioning gears
Backup camera started glitching on and off for a couple weeks and eventually stopped working completely and screen is now black when shifted in to reverse. Purchase new camera from dealer, installed, but did not fix issue so I returned it. Found out later that the camera requires initialization or programming depending on year so replacing my consumer does not appear possible.
I bought my 2018 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost, 4x4, and 10R80 transmission as a Ford Blue Certified truck from a Ford dealer at about 92,000 miles. Putting the truck into gear to pull out of the parking spot it "clunked" into drive, which I mentioned to the salesperson who was with me shrugged it off as "it's probably because it's been sitting for a while." The problems started shortly after purchase and have gotten way worse over the next 34,000 miles. It jerks hard shifting in and out of 3rd, 5th, and 8th gears. Oftentimes it skips 2nd and 4th gear. In 7th gear it feels like a "false neutral" where the engine revs with no power before slamming into a higher gear. The worst of the safety concerns are that on the highway in 9th or 10th gear it will suddenly downshift to 1st causing sudden deceleration and pegging the RPMs to the top end of the gauge, and when decelerating to a full stop the transmission will stay stuck in 7th gear leaving me unable to accelerate into traffic, until it decides to slam back into 1st gear after a few moments. The wrench light also comes on. This is a huge safety risk, and many other have experienced serious near-miss incidents or accidents such as rear-end collisions or losing control and their vehicle ending up off the road. I took the truck to the dealer initially and they programmed the transmission for an "adaptive drive cycle" relearn which masked the underlying issues for a little while that ended up returning much worse. The transmission failed at 116000 miles. Initially it was due to low oil level, never checked at the dealership in all the services I've had done. I added a quart to bring up to the property level. Had the fluid and filter changed the next day, and techs didn't say anything about what they found during the test drive they did. Ford then went straight to me needing a new transmission at $11000 for parts and labor. An independent technician that is Ford certified also looked at the vehicle and transmission and confirmed it's most likely the CDF clutch cylinder and the "Trashcan" as it's called. These are both known issues and it's why Ford updated the design after several failures at low miles. The independent mechanic quoted me at $7,000 for parts and labor and it's the same updated transmission.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced erratic and unexpected transmission shifting and a loss of motive power. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be repaired or possibly replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the failure started shortly after the vehicle was repaired under an Emissions recall. No further information was available. The failure mileage was 125,000.
Was driving my truck on 55 mph road, when truck started rough shifting and becoming unresponsive to the accelerator pedal, which cause my car to quickly decelerate on the road and become hazardous to others as my brake lights were not on (since I wasn’t actually braking). Another time at a stop light, I started trying to drive, and transmission stopped responding in the middle of the intersection, barely made it through before light turned red… had a child in the car with me too. Brought truck into Ford dealership to diagnose the issue, they said it was the CDF in the transmission, and this is a known and not uncommon issue. Seems crazy that this isn’t an issue Ford is fixing on the affected vehicles if it can cause people to get stuck in intersections with no way to move out of harms way, especially if this is a relatively common issue? No warning lights or anything indicating this was a problem prior to the issue. I had actually just had my truck at the dealership for 90k mile maintenance less than 1000 miles before this happened, and Ford gave me a “green checkmark” on my transmission being good at that appointment.
Transmission has lots of issue, clunky shifting, surges, weird noises. Happens every time you drive. Dealer said it was normal but it's not. I've driven plenty of these 10r80s and they didn't have this issue. Engine makes noises that are not on other examples of this engine, my dad has the same truck and had similar issues and had to spend thousands of dollars to fix an engineering defect in the cam phasers. Dealer also said these noises were normal while under warranty - I see countless posts on forums saying the same thing then for others, after warranty suddenly its a problem because a retail job pays 30-40% more than a warranty job. Such a scam and you just keep allowing it. There is simply no reason that the 10r80 transmission and 3.5 ecoboost gen 2 engines haven't been recalled yet. Ford has issued updated parts, admitted to engineering issues that caused these issues so why are customers forced to pay to fix engineered issues? They admited fault, they need to make it right for their customers instead of screwing us over.
The transmission failed at only 63,000 miles. Prior to the failure i had no codes or warning lights. It began to shift harshly and jump gears. At a stop light it would remain in 7th gear and then trying to get moving again would require a large amount of acceleration, then it suddenly would jump down to 1st gear and shoot ahead. This is a large pickup and i am concerned for the safety of pedestrians. Also, at faster speeds the transmission would suddenly downshift causing a large jerk and could easily result in a loss of control. After the transmission failed, i did some research online and was shocked to see so many similar postings from owners with this same transmission. Ford Motor Company agreed to pay a portion of the repair as they are fully aware this is a common problem with this 10 speed transmission. I hope you look into this as i feel it is an extreme safety issue for pedestrians as these are large pickups. Thank you.
Was listening to my radio in my 2018 f150 1min and the next the music stopped my phone stopped charging touch screen went black tried the soft reset nothing checked fuses nothing . Found out it’s my apim Ive also seen where a lot of people are saying they have had the same issue with this and it’s not a cheap fix one guy said he works at ford and done 15 in one day . Ford is suppose to be the best why isn’t there a recall on these . 98k miles and I have to spend $500-$1000 to be able to use my touch screen this is not right for anyone and this should be on ford . Believe I might be switching over to dodge now.
I have experienced a reoccurring issue with an hvac drain leak that creates black mold in the carpet this happened in many 2019 & 2020 f150 models. Some early on & some 6 years later (like my vehicle). This was covered in a prior TSB but did not always fix the problem nor did they replace the carpet (to fix the mold issue). Also, the TSB does not cover this issue out of the 36 month warranty. This is a health hazard due to the black mold, especially since their fix does not always cure the issue.
We are having trouble with our rear-view backup camera not working properly like the F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty trucks that are being recalled because their rearview camera images may not display correctly in certain lighting conditions. Our issues with the F-150 is the same as the others however ours has not been recalled and I think it should be.
Truck shifts hard and loses acceleration, sporadically. Several times in the middle of left turning intersections my truck would not accelerate, nearly causing other oncoming vehicles to t-bone me. Took it to an auto shop, they stated it is a dealer repair only Took it to Ford dealer, they suspect CDF drum bushing is shifted. Quoted me $10K My truck has been parked since April 2024, I pay $650.00 a month on it and Ford refuses to assist because I was 2000 miles over my extended warranty. I paid $40K for a vehicle that I drove for 20 months until April 2024 which its been parked for 1.5 years. Fast Forward to this week when I found out there is a class action lawsuit, I called on that, they said it could take several years for resolution and I should pay for the repair. I called Ford corporate, they said because there is no recall, they cannot help.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission failed to shift properly. Additionally, the contact stated that while the transmission was shifting gear, there was a clunking sound coming from the gear shifter. The power train warning light was illuminated. The contact used a handheld scanner and retrieved DTC: P07F6-00 (Gear 9 Incorrect Ratio Detected by PCM). The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where DTC: P07F6-00; was retrieved again, and the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.
When cold starting the engine, a rattling sound occurs caused by the cam phasers not aligning properly. My research shows that Ford claims this is not an issue, and has never issued a recall for this, however, I am worried that continued use might damage the engine further.
My truck would shift gears randomly and the transmission would slip every time I start to accelerate. I took it to the shop and they said that there was internal CDG cylinder failure. I looked it up and it seems as that this has been an issue with a lot of F-150's.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
