2018 Ford Edge complaints

Check engine light came on, I read it with my code reader and it showed as a cylinder 3 misfire. I ordered spark plugs to replace to see if that was the issue. A few days later I noticed my heat would blow cold when I was idling. I checked under my hood and noticed that my coolant levels were extremely low. Bought coolant and filled my reservoir back up and checked it the next day, it was back down to the extremely low level. I ended up taking my vehicle to the mechanic and he told me that my coolant was leaking into my engine and that I should go back to the dealership I got the car from. Never in a million years would I have thought that my car troubles were going to be this expensive, especially considering that I just got the vehicle only 7 months ago! He also informed me that this was a known issue with Ford. After going back to the dealership, they told me I would need to replace my engine. Unlucky me, the warranty expired literally two weeks before this all happened. A case was opened up with Ford and they told me they could not do anything to help me and that I would have to pay out of my own pocket to fix this, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD! After doing my own research on it, I see that several other people are having this same exact issue and are also having to pay out of their own pockets due to lack of help from Ford. Ford should be held liable for this, as it is their design flaw. Why are consumers forced to pay upwards of $5,500 out of their own pock
I've took my car to the dealership and been advise that I need to replace my engine. The most common issue is the coolant leakage into the engine. This leads to engine misfiring. I was advise from the dealership I ned to have my engine replacement. After researching, I see alot of compliants on the coolant leaking into the engine, this should be a recall.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and vibrating. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle regained normal function. The contact stated the check engine warning was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had entered the engine cylinder bore and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to manufacturer Technical Service Bulletin: 19-2346 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
The vehicle is a 2018 Ford Edge and has less than 100k miles on it. Car was leaking coolant and we took it to the dealership where they told us it was leaking coolant into cylinder 4 and was possibly a cracked head. They had an adjuster, from the warranty company, inspected the vehicle and the adjuster stated we needed a new motor on 2/20/23 then 3 days later, 2/23/23, the warranty company contacted the dealership and told them they revoked the engine swap. They stated it must be damaged by an internally lubricated part. The dealership also put in an appeal to the denial. We've been having a constant battle with the warranty since February 4th. My car was in shop for 36 consecutive days and has yet to be fixed. The vehicle can overheat due to the constant leak of coolant and catch on fire or potentially blow up the entire motor while operating. We have been in emotional distress, extreme financial distress and its attempted child endangerment. I take my vehicle to and from work and to pick up my 2 year old son from daycare. If the engine was to blow, we could crash or get stuck and it could be fatal to both my child and I and my husband if he is driving.
We purchased this used vehicle, a Ford Edge Titanium with an Ecoboost 2.0 engine on January 19, 2023 from the Kia Store in Clarksburg, Indiana. During the first 30 days while still under dealership warranty the Check Engine Light (CEL) lit up. A scan at a local repair shop on January 31, 2023 indicated a misfire on Cylinder 3. (p0303) When the CEL lit up again tech at the Kia dealership examined the vehicle on February 06, 2023 and said that nothing appeared to be wrong with the vehicle. When the CEL lit up again and we took the car back to the local repair shop who recommended all new spark plugs. That repair was performed. A few days later the CEL lit up again and a new ignition coil for cylinder 3 was recommended and that repair was performed. Recently, the CEL has lit up yrt sgsom and we also noticed that the vehicle is consuming coolant. There are no leaks and no coolant on the floor. After some research I discovered that these 2018 Ford Ecoboost engines appear to have a significant deaign flaw. In 2017 Ford stopped using a "closed deck" design in favor of an "open deck" design. Since then coolant intrusion into cylinders, mostly cylinders 2 and 4 have become commonplace. I understand that in 2022 Ford actually sent our a service bulletin (I think that is what it was) about this design flaw. I also understand that Ford routinely declines to cover the repairs if the vehicle is out of warranty, which we are. Unfortunately the indicated repair is a long block relacement. Wh
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle started to shake and vibrate violently. The vehicle was immediately driven to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The cause for the failure was unknown. I took my car in because the check engine light came on. I've been told that coolant is leaking in my engine and the only repair option is to replace the engine. When I did some research online, this is a known issue for the model/year of car. There are many reports of it happening. The cost of this is $10,000. I was not in an accident. I take excellent care of my car. This is a known manufacturer issue.
Coolant leaking into the engine - replacement of engine needed.
I was driving on interstate route 22 in Derry Twp. Pa. when the engine started to shake and the vehicle started to slow down , I know that there was a ford garage 2 mile down the road , and I managed to get the vehicle to the Ford garage. Upon inspection by the Ford service garage they informed me that there is coolant getting into the #2 cylinder of the 4 cylinder engine . They also informed me that it cannot be fixed and that the entire engine needs to be replaced . There is only 61,166 miles on the engine and Ford says that it is out of warranty and the owner is responsible for all repairs which comes to $7,121.01 . I have spoken to 3 Ford garages , TRI-STAR MOTERS , Blairsville, Pa. were my vehicle is , LATROBE FORD , and Greensburg FORD, and all three told me that they have seen this problem in there shop on the 4 cylinder Ford engines ! The service depts. stated that there is a defect in the engine blocks and that is why it has to be replaced vs repaired ! They said that Ford had a recall on some of the engines but not all. All these 4 cylinders Ford engines need to be recalled not just some of them ! It is obvious, just as in my case that most of these 4 cylinders are defective ! The engine warning light did not come on until I had almost complete engine failure and slowed down considerably . I am requesting the NTSB and the NHTSA to further expand the recall on these obviously defective engines. The vehicle owners should NOT be stuck paying over $7,000 for an obvious

There is a problem with coolant leaking into the cylinders on the 2.0L Ecoboost engines on the Ford edge requiring the entore engine to be replaced. Now mine is under warranty but I have researched and there are many many people having the same issue. I think it's time ford issues a recall since it's a manufacturer defect
Engine light came on, code it was showing was P0302. Took it to the mechanic the next morning. The shop said there is coolant leaking into the engine and the only repair to be had is to get an entire new engine. We purchased the edge used with about 72,000 miles within the last month. Upon further research, it seems that coolant leaking into the edge in the 2015-2018 models is very common, yet there is no recall for our VIN and no direct suppose from Ford if outside the manufacture warranty.

The trim pieces surrounding the front and sides of the moon roof fly off vehicle when driving. Has happened 3 times now, twice at speed when a large truck passed from opposite direction and once at medium speed it with no passing vehicle. These flying pieces pose a threat to nearby vehicles, motorcyclists and pedestrians. Dealer repair and body shop employees have seen the results when repairing. No warning lights or messages. In initial Ford Case # CAS24094836 (May, 2019) repair was covered under warranty. Second repair 8/13/2019 I had to escalate thru Ford Customer Care to get covered under extended warranty. This time the parts flew off soon after leaving dealer body shop so had to go back for 3rd repair. Fourth repair done 9/6/2022 done by local body shop.

Only have about 13600 miles on my 2018 Edge and the battery drains down about .5 v overnight. Could not start in in my garage after 4 days of sitting, charged it up and took it to the Ford dealer where they did a load test on the battery, it tested at 89%. I did a load test with a multimeter with the same results. Dealer told me to keep a trickle charger on it because I didn't drive it enough which was a poor answer. There is a NHTSA #18V54800 out there and a Ford recall #18S25 that does not include my SUV but it could have the same problem. Looking on line there are others with the same issues with the battery going dead just by sitting and in most cases changing out batteries was not the cure and it seemed Ford offered no resolve. If this is a problem caused by a loose connection or a short it could indeed become a bigger safety issue. My vehicle was built at the same plant as stated on the Ford recall # and it should be considered a safety issue for all Edges of the model year of 2018 made a that plant. I'm not sure this is my problem but I need to start somewhere noting that it's happened to others besides me. Thank you for any help in this matter
The car has difficulty staying started after filling up with fuel. It does settle out but it is getting worse.. Today, it shut off while moving after just being filled up. Apparently, the fuel purge valve is going bad. This should be a recall of some sort since it seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. An expensive problem.

TSB 22-2229 Had dealer change spark plugs, while attempting broke spark plug off in head. Reported they would have to replace the head. More investigation led them to TSB 22-2229 and a boroscope of the head found coolant intrusion. Now the dealer states it will cost me 6500$ to repair the long block due to the coolant intrusion. This is a known problem with 2014-2018 Ford Edge and Ford Escapes as well as other vehicles. Copied from a law group website who is filing a class action lawsuite "Experts recommend that customers notify the Ford motor company as soon as possible once they identify an issue. These problems are not always simple and could cause dangerous consequences. If the leak inside it is left unfixed, it could cause problems with the engine and cause a rear-drive axle seizure." A quick search of this has hundreds of complaints stating this issue. This is not just a rear drive axle seizure issue. This could cause a fire in the engine due to coolant in the combustion. The check engine code did display with a P0300 MISFIRE Cylinder 3 code on it.

My vehicle is not listed under the recall 17S16(2) this is an expansion to recall 17V-427 yet my car has been sitting for 4 months at a FORD dealership because the TORQUE CONVERTOR that is not performing IS ON BACKORDER. Why is FORD being allowed to string me the consumer along until they decide that this is a big problem? I received a Service Notice (Customer Satisfaction Program 22N12 stating that they are aware of a problem with the flexplate, transmission fluid pump and Torque convertor but no RESOLUTION. I cannot AFFORD to keep making car payments for a car I cannot drive. I am beyond frustrated and FORD will not communicate with me.
About a week and a half ago, we started getting an error message that the Adaptive steering fault requires service. We contacted our local Ford dealer who says it could be an electrical issue. But can't see us until Nov 1st. Additionally ,when driving straight, the steering wheels ( Ford logo) is turned to the left. It is worrisome but the dealer says it's safe to drive. I don't think so. In doing our research,we've found that this seems to be an issue. I shouldn't have to pay for theses repairs whether through my pocket or through my extended warranty. Which will be out of pocket either way, because I pay for this through my car note and would have a deductible.
My vehicle only has 77K miles on it and is already needing an entirely new engine due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. We discovered this after replacing all the spark plugs in the vehicle and the check engine light not disengaging. You should not have to replace an entire engine with only 77K miles. This is a known issue with FORD referencing two bulletin's - the first bulletin #19-2346 and now with bulletin #22-2133. They are refusing to cover the repairs 100% and expecting the consumer to pay 40% of the cost of their known issue of a $10K repair ticket. It also clearly states in the recent bulletin that the MIL may or may not engage with this issue. If we had know that this was an issue with this vehicle inside the 5 year/60K mile powertrain warraty which would have covered the repairs 100% we would have taken care of it then. The MIL was never engaged and provided any indication that this was going on. It was discovered after the MIL engaged at 77K miles and we took it in for service and had all spark plugs replaced costing almost $300 in repairs just to discover that did not resolve the check engine light to stop illuminating. This vehicle has been maticulously maintained since taking ownership of it in 2018. All service records are available if needed.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving on an incline at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went into Limp Mode and stalled. The coolant temperature warning light and the engine safe mode light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the spark plugs and injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that he noticed light smoke coming from the exhaust and smelled a burning odor. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a portion of the cost for the repair would be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after a cold start, the coolant temperature too high warning message appeared on the instrument panel while the vehicle was idle. The contact restarted the vehicle but the service message returned. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the mechanic discovered that coolant had leaked into the cylinder head, causing the engine block to crack, resulting in engine failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 64,000.
Vehicle is overheating due to a coolant leak into the cylinder. Ford knows of issue but has not recalled vehicle even though it's a defect in the design of the engine.

2018 FORD EDGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 22V-413. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME COMPLETING THE RECALL REPAIR.
I received a recall letter in the mail July of 2022, I called several Ford dealerships and they informed me that they had not received the parts for this recall as of yet and I would just have to wait to receive the second letter in the mail. I have waited and waited and waited. This past weekend September 10, 2022, I was driving with my oldest and youngest children in the car when my vehicle went from drive to reverse. I was able to get the vehicle back in drive and continue to drive to our friends house. As i placed the car in park it registered in reverse I could not let go of the brake or I would start moving in reverse this scared me because my vehicle was not registering in park even though it was in park. My vehicle was turned off and still continued to register in reverse then drive then sport mode then in reverse again. I was able to get the vehicle in neutral after some time, but this frightened myself and my children. I called the Ford dealerships and Ford corporate for assistance in the matter and none were helpful as the parts will not be released until December of 2022. I am a single parent, who relies on my vehicle not only to transport myself and my children, but to transport us safely there. I have just gone into remission from having cancer and rely on my vehicle to go to important appointments and all the stress of this has a very real possibility of causing the cancer to come back. Ford has failed me in both categories.
The contact owned a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while making a right turn at approximately 5-7 MPH, another vehicle coming from the left lane crashed into her driver's front side door, causing her vehicle to crash into a wall. The air bags deployed upon impact, and the driver's side knee air bag cut her right ankle and fractured it in half. The contact was transported by ambulance to the hospital and had emergency surgery on her right ankle. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the tow yard where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,488.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, she heard a sound like a gun shot and observed sunroof glass had detached and fallen onto the highway. The contact stated she pulled over to look at the sunroof and saw that the front edge of the sunroof had shattered; however, the remaining glass was cracked. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. The contact had taken the vehicle to be repaired and used a rental car during that time.
My 2018 Ford Edge has 85k miles. Recently it began vibrating on startup even after the auto-shut off button was activated. The rough idle began interfering with my ability to maintain adequate attention on the road and created significant feelings of anxiety each at every braking. Vehicle check engine light would come on and then go off. On 8/26/22 vehicle was inspected by Beach Ford who completed a fuel injector treatment. After picking up vehicle the check engine light reappeared. Attempted to contact service agent by cell phone because dealership stated that was the only way to communicate but did not receive reply. Changed all spark plugs and coils due to code P0303. Check engine light still on so contacted Beach Ford again and on 9/9/22 they confirmed the issue as a coolant leak appearing on the “bulletin” as a commonly known defect for my vehicle. The dealership stated I would need a new engine and since the warranty only covers up to 60k miles I would have to pay the full price of over $7500. Any symptoms of a problem were immediately addressed by dealership within one week of onset each time. Dealership completed work on a recall 6/10/22 and mentioned nothing about the “known service defect” nor did they document completing any routine inspections out of courtesy since Ford had this information at that time and I (the unknowing consumer) did not.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
