The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and stated that there was no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000.
2018 Dodge Durango complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2018 record →
The vehicle braking system will start alerting the driver to brake when not necassary. Alarm will sound in the vehicle, and Dashboard will start flashing "BRAKE" multiple times. it did break automatically once while driving, children were present in the vehicle. I am concerned if the vehicle brakes on it own it cause an accident. FCA has sent out a notice that our vehicle VIN is not one that is effected but we are having the same problems.
Touchscreen display failure. Causes erratic and distracting behaviors of the HVAC, radio, navigation, phone, and other systems while vehicle is in use. Prevents setting or changing of safety related settings (ie; lane departure settings, automatic headlamp controls, alarms, etc).
The “do you want to adjust your clock settings” pop up screen keeps popping up repeatedly and disconnecting the car battery does not fix it.
The sunroof bursted and shattered in what can only be described as an explosion. Driver and passenger were occupying the vehicle at the time the sunroof broke. The vehicle was operated in a standard manner and driven on a highway. The sunroof without having observed any cracks or dings shattered without warning. The resolving explosive noise scared both the driver and passenger, which in itself could lead to an accident if the driver had reacted differently. Some of the shattered glass fell on the occupants. The majority of the glass from the sunroof lifted off and crash down on the road behind the vehicle. The drivers brother was able to witness in his rare view mirror the moment when the glass lifted off and flew over the back of the affected vehicle. There were no vehicles driving behind the affected vehicle at the time, but the glass could have created a safety hazard to people behind and in the vicinity of the affected vehicle. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, but so far to the knowledge of the owners or the affected vehicle a comparable situation has not been a reported issue at their preferred dealer. The damage is still being dealt with and at this time has not been inspected by anyone. Again the sunroof bursted without any warning signs. There was just suddenly a bang that can only be compared to a gun shot.
The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the rear camera activated independently, without warning. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The LCD Screen for my computer has an awkward spot in the top right corner when I bought my vehicle (which only had a very few miles on it). I thought it was just cosmetic and didn't worry much about it. Eventually, the awkward spot spread into a crack across the top of the screen. I have read online that this is a known problem that occurs on many of the vehicles of the same year and make. The screen began to perform on its own, it pushes multiple buttons constantly. This is more than an irritation it is a safety hazard for my family. The screen controls my heat and air, it turns the heat up and down, from hot to cold and hot again. I cannot defrost my windshield, as the air flow continues to switch from blower to blower. The seat warmers turn on and off. I am unable to control them, and my passengers can be burned. My backup camera does not function properly effecting the safety of everyone around us. The screen has pushed emergency call more than once. and totally controls my phone making calls and randomly hanging up on calls as well as muting or turning on and off apps. This is very dangerous for me, as the driver, trying to grab my phone and stop the emergency calls and other things. I cannot start my car using the auto start to warm up and defrost because the vehicle will not stay on defrost it will continuously switch around. The uconnect usually warns me of traffic hazards and storms in my area, as well as posting the speed limit and directions on the screen. Without
The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving at 25 MPH, the vehicle that was 20 feet away from his vehicle stopped. The contact depressed the brake pedal but it failed to respond, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of the other vehicle. The air bags deployed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The other driver did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it remained. The dealer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact later became aware that his VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V426000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), which he associated with the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
The contact's wife owns a 2018 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the headrest deployed inadvertently and struck the contact in the back of the head. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road for a moment. There was no injury sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist since the VIN was not included in an unknown recall and the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 76,050.
The radio is started to ghost touch which means that it is randomly choosing anything on the screen. Because it controls many of the cars features, it can cause things to get out of control while trying to drive. I have video which I couldn't upload.
The 8.4 inch Uconnect system will malfunction causing it to randomly press things on the screen. This can cause it to raise the temperature to HIGH with you unable to turn it off. In doing so can be detrimental to the driver because they then become distracted from the road due to the incredibly high temperatures. This is happening for all 8.4 Uconnect systems across all models.
The vehicle 8.4 inch display has become delaminated. It constantly changes comfort, radio, navigation, and Wi-Fi setting while the vehicle is in motion. This is a serious distraction to the driver and a serious safety issue.
On multiple occasions, my touchscreen pops up asking if I want to update the clock settings. There is actually nothing wrong with my clock. This message continues to repopulate regardless if I hit yes or no. This message deactivates everything else on the touchscreen (radio, navigation, etc) and causes a major distraction while driving. This has happened multiple times over the last month and the only way it ends is when I turn the engine off.
On multiple occasions and at multiple gas stations, whenever I insert the nozzle and fully engage the trigger, the pump shuts off. My options are to either partially depress the trigger and run the pump at about 1/4 speed or turn the nozzle counterclockwise over 90-degrees. After posting this matter, I've learned that this is a very common defect with the Dodge Durango that has yet to be addressed with a factory recall. My concern is that this could create a longer term safety issue if it not taken care of. My concern is that something may be wrong internally with my tank that could lead to possible leak down the road that I would never know about until its too late.
The hydraulic control unit antilock break system module in vehicle system reads falsely for pressure in primary circuit. I use car for rental service but can no longer use it until it is fixed
Rear taillights. The outter section that is lit around, one small section of leds are not working, very common on all the Durangos. Dodge dealership won't pass my inspection. It has nothing to do with brake lights. This should be a recall
I was driving on I75 North in Florida near Ocala (exit 358) traveling about 70mph when I approached slowing traffic. I attempted a slow and steady stop without slamming on the brakes. The emergency braking system engaged but the vehicle failed to stop and I was not able to completely floor the brakes. In an effort to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me and causing a multiple car collision I swerved onto the grassy side of the road. Because the car would not stop completely my passenger front wheel made contact with a concrete ditch and my vehicle flipped over resulting in a total loss.
The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering and braking functionality. During the failure, the vehicle had not lost electrical power with the interior lights and instrument cluster illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer on multiple occasions for the same failure and the power train control module, engine mounts, and an unknown wiring harness were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V524000 (Electrical System). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Unknown. My son hit the front passenger headrest with a toy and the headrest deployed. I was in the front passenger seat at the time this happened but it did not hit the back of my head.
STARTED TODAY - THE CAR NO LONGER WILL TURN OFF. THE CAR JUST DINGS AND DOES NOT STOP. YOU CAN NOT TURN OFF IT WON'T DO IT. CLAIMS ITS NOT IN PARK AND STAYS RUNNING.
SUV was parked not and overnight my passenger seat headrest "active head restraint" activated and opened up. I contacted Dodge/Chrysler Headquaters and they stated a recall was found for this safety feature but my vehicle VIN was not part of the recall. I should not be responsible for repairs. I know first hand how important safety features are needed on vehicle and how they save lives when working/used properly. I'm an FARS FL Analyst currently contracted with NHTSA
This is occurring frequent the system freaked abs system came on doing 38 miles an hour. Than system freaked out and brake light came on empty tank showed. Check engine than for 2 miles horn Blasted on its own . After the temperature gauge stopped working and now it continues to state it’s not in park when it is .
Throwing codes of of lost communication of body control module and cylinder 3 misfire.
Headrest deployed while driving
This is the 4th time in 2 weeks that the ABS system freaked. I was driving and reached 70mph and it randomly will start slowing kick on the check engine light. Blinks and then throws on the abs warning light. This has happened in summer and the 1 time it has rained day before. The system than alerted me to start/stop engine turn off and turn back on. I did do this. This happens though WHEN I am driving. The sensors go off, a few days later. It will happen again. This is extremely dangerous ! I made a video of it this past time
Had to replace fuel canister and sensor. Had to redo fuel system . The evap sensor appeared while driving, engine light came on and car started driving really weird and shaking. It was freaking out did not drive right.
Not just mine but many Durangos from 2014-2022 has a defect in which the rear light bar which has no seal gets wet and burns the led light out, this needs to be addressed and recalled asap, I also have pictures of random Durangos I’ve seen at night with the light out in the same spots.
Radio/Nav System Change radio stations on its own. The display goes off/on by itself. The nav system suggested wrong location after an address is typed in. It makes the headlight beams goes on and off. The nav does not retain the settings anymore. I called Dodge and the nav/rad system was replaced at no cost to me. Problem resolved.
Track lighting starting to fail. Water accumulation inside the bottom passenger side of track light. 44,000 miles on vehicle. No damage. Presents safety issue with rear visibility. Can cause short in wiring, causing potential fire.
On May13th I was slowly pulling into my garage : as I was slowly easing my foot off the brake (but still in contact with the brake pedal), the car suddenly accelerated. I pressed my foot hard on the brake but was unable to stop the car. It was traveling very slowly with only about 5 feet to go when it suddenly accelerated. It struck the water heater which is situated against the rear wall of the garage with enough force to make my neck and shoulders hurt. There was a rubber trash can in front of the heater that may have absorbed some impact. There was a dent in the bumper. Inside the house, on the other side of the wall, the paint and plaster were cracked and somewhat displaced and a bureau pushed away from the wall. This acceleration happened without any warning. This also happened to my 2015 Dodge Durango in Feb 2019. The situation was almost identical; I was almost done pulling into the garage with my foot lightly on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated and struck the water heater, denting it and causing mor extensive damage to 2 walls inside the house. I had my own mechanic and the dealer evaluate that car and they couldn't find anything wrong. I did see reports of this happening to other 2015 Durangos at low speed. We traded in the 2015 Durango to the dealer because of the accident and their assurance that they'd never seen this happen (at the time it wasn't reported in any 2018 Durangos) and we bought the 2018 Durango that was involved in the May 13 acceleration.
The active headrest restraint deployed in the vehicle with no collision. It deployed randomly. It looks like there is a broken part inside the headrest. I just bought the car. I have complained to the dealer because it wasn't like that when I test drove it but I saw it after I bought it and was driving it home. Could have happened during the final detailing.
My engine is not cooling while my vehicle drives more will the transmission cool down now my transmission won’t work the correct way
Radio and navigation screen, is ghost touching. Just changes settings randomly and often.
The touchscreen continuously freezes and displays a prompt about adjusting the clock settings. The screen pops up repeatedly and beeps making the rest of the touchscreen functions unusable.
The driver side headrest deployed on its own
Electrical system wiring failure/error front under hood.
Unknown. I have a dodge Durango that the racetrack lights on the tailgate not all are working and I've seen some with all the lights out causing a safety hazard.
2018 Durango GT purchased at 30k miles and the oil pan gasket was already worn and leaking oil. Tensioner and pulley also failed. Seems like Mopar utilize low quality parts in general, as minor as they may seem they are vital for me to operate my vehicle safely.
I have a 2018 DD, and my radio screen is doing the same thing. The screen looks like it has a huge bubble, the "adjust clock " notification constantly pops up, the screen freezes up; where I can't use any of the functions (no radio, no back up camera, no control over the thermostat, no navigation, cant answer the phone etc). I have to disconnect my battery just to get the screen to go off because it wont shut off after the vehicle is turned off.
I noticed an air bubble looking thing on my radio screen. You can see it in the attached video which is just one example from recent. Then my screen starting doing things on it's own. Changing from on thing to the next on it's own. I spoke with my mechanic who was having similar issues and told me about a group he is part of because there are so many people with this same issue. The screen is delaminating and causing what people are referring to as ghost touches. I think this is a safety hazard because it is distracting to have your screen changing constantly. It will make phone calls on it's own, change from heat to AC and turn the fan from high to low. Having your AC blasting in the middle of winter is no treat. Having your heat blasting summer won't be great either. This is a safety issue as well. This is all controlled by the screen. Imagine someone has epilepsy and this crazy screen causes a seizure? I have contacted Dodge and my local Dodge dealer. Nobody wants to acknowledge the issue because I am out of warranty. Warranty or not it's a safety issue that needs addressed before it causes someone to go off the road due to distractions of the radio doing whatever it wants and controlling all kinds of things in your vehicle. I know I am not the first person to reach out or report this issue. I really hope there is something that can be done before someone gets hurt. Thank you for your time and consideration. I wasn't able to get the filed uploaded for the video but when I
My 2018 Dodge Durango radio screen is delaminating from the top of the screen working its way down the screen. The screen also freezes up. To the point where the screen is stuck on even when the vehicle is off. When the screen is stuck I can't control any settings, radio, navigation, back up camera won't show, I can't answer the phone hands free. I'm afraid is draining my battery when it stays on like that, I have to disconnect the battery just for the screen to shut off. The adjust the clock notification constantly pops up on the screen. Its unsafe to have to keep disconnecting the battery in an effort to save my battery. It's unsafe to have to take my eyes off the road, to press the button to close out the adjust clock notification. It's unsafe to not have access to my back up camera to check my surroundings. It's not safe when you have no control over your thermostat. It's not safe to not have access to handsfree function when answering a call. The problem has been diagnosed by the dealership, and they say I need to replace the whole radio. The first appearance of the problem was around January of 2021, that's when the screen started pealing, then the adjust the clock notification started popping up during the summer of 2021 and the screen freezing and won't shut off started January 2022.
Water Intrusion caused rear lift gate "racetrack light" tail lights including license plate lights to become inoperable. This poses an obvious risk to safety as the lighting is relied upon by drivers, in dark conditions, to detect the rear of my vehicle. If a driver behind me were to fail to detect the rear of my vehicle, in dark conditions, they could easily collide with the rear of my vehicle. If this were to happen, there is a great possibility that persons in either vehicle could be seriously injured or killed. A simple Google search of this issue would reveal that there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints on the same issue. So far dodge has refused to acknowledge this manufacturer's defect or the possible safety implications it can cause.
The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the taillights failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the taillights to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
The 2018 Dodge Durango has a blown rear shock. I have wore shocks out but never seen blown seals. The car barely has 50k and is not covered under warranty, or my extended warranty. They are on backorder and apparently this is not a new problem. The soonest I can get a shock is the 23rd of next month. It is not safe to drive.
Doing some checking problems with this particular vehicle it seems that the water pump/ radiator has problems. My vehicle has a anti-freeze leak when at idle leaving a stream in the driveway. Thus causing a problem for pets and wildlife. The engine warning light has come on. The a/c compressor makes a noise also. FYI.
The Uconnect Radio has started to delaminate and causes the system to randomly change between radio, satellite radio, navigation, clock, etc. This fully integrated system also controls A/C, Heat, rear backup camera, all adjustable functions in the vehicle, and is unsafe when this happens. Dealership offers to update the radio but it has nothing to do with the software it's the touchscreen. Diagnosis and repair is around $1500.00 to $2000.00 not covered under warranty. This issue is with all models of Dodge Chrysler with 8.4" Uconnet radios as seen in the online forums.
MY CAR IS A DODGE DURANGO SRT8, YEAR 2018 , VIN# [XXX], WITH ONLY 20,000 MILES AND THE ENGINE TRANSMISSION BROKE. IT IS UNDER GUARANTEE AND THE DEALER HAS BEING COMPLIANT. I AM AFFRAID THAT IN THE WEB MEDIA MORE OWNERS WITH THE SAME ENGINE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AS ME. THERE IS A NOTIFICATION THAT THE ENGINE HAD A FACTORY ERROR IN THE MANUFACTURING, THEY MENTION A PARK LOCK ROD CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I AM SEARCHING IF THERE IS ANY RECALL, BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM IS BEGINNING TO FLOURISH. PLEASE I WILL APPRECIATE MORE INFORMATION AND SUGGESTION FROM YOU OF WHAT SHOULD I DO. THANKS. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My radio screen cover is separating and looks like a big air bubble which causes the radio system to change stations and the system is not usable. So when you’re using the navigation system it cuts off the navigation system and the whole system starts to reboot. I was backing up in a reboot and he couldn’t and it affected the back up camera. I went to the dealer in Waldorf Maryland, and they told me that they had several people who complained about this the attendant said they had at least one a day they came here for that problem.
The display screen seems to be separating from the internal screen. The this separation is causing touch input that is not done by me. It causes random changes including the display of the back up camera while driving in a forward motion. This can be alarming to the driver as it makes you think your vehicle has come out of gear into reverse as well as serve as a general distraction. The first few times it happened to me, I slammed on breaks in traffic almost causing an accident. The dash/console also randomly reset itself.
The racetrack light strip on the trunk isn’t water tight. Rain water, melting snow, car washes, etc, cause water and condensation to build up inside the light. This builds up and fries the LEDs in the rear taillights. This then caused an electrical problem that caused a headlight to malfunction. Dodge/Chrysler refused to help me with this. I had to replace it out of pocket and 2 months later my new one had the same problem. I see tons of Durango’s on the road with burnt out taillights due to this issue. The part is over $1,000 and is always on back order because of how often it fails. My car has less than 30k miles and has never been in an accident. This is a safety issues as my taillights are less visible and it causes other lights, such as my headlight to fail as well. They will not issue a recall, this is ridiculous. An over $40,000 car that isn’t waterproof and the manufacturer won’t remedy the problem.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
