Vehicle is sputtering and jerking while driving When slowing to a stop vehicles engine will shut off. I do know that the 2021 Tahoe has recalls on the fuel pump issues but not sure why my vin number isn’t covered under this recall. This is a 2 year old vehicle and already has recalls on this year model on its fuel pump. At this point it is barely driveable and is a danger for myself and my family to drive.
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2021 record →
While sitting at a stop sign the vehicle began to stall. I was able to drive 50 feet and it died in the road. The Tahoe is not getting fuel to start. Starter continues to try and engage upon start but the vehicle never engage. The fuel pump drive module seems to be an issue. I can't get the car out of park to have it towed to the Chevrolet dealership. This is consistent with other Tahoe recall vehicles having the same issue.
At 13,540 miles, the drivers headlight started pointing to the ground instead of out front of the car. The headlight adjuster screw (inside the complete headlight assembly) had failed and was replaced under warranty. Then again at 35,250 mile the same thing happened again. Dealer claims GM will not do a goodwill warranty and wants $350-400 to take the headlight assembly off he car and send pictures to GM to see if GM will assist with replacement costs. Obviously this is a manufacturing defect or quality control issue. As 90% of my driving is done at night, it is unsafe for me to drive this vehicle at night.
Fuel Pump Module malfunctioned while driving, causing vehicle to shut down in middle of street. Very alarming when car died while driving, fortunately was not driving at a high speed or on a busy street/highway and was able to move to an exit lane without incident since no shoulder on street, did cause quite a traffic jam (very stressful). Vehicle was towed to dealership after could not be jumped started. Dealership confirmed faulty fuel pump module. Currently at dealership & will be for a while due to part backlog. Received no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to this incident.
On Wednesday,Sept20 2023 I was traveling eastbound in the passing Lane on interstate 90 in New York when my Chevy tahoes motor began shaking violently, chugging, and losing power. The check engine light illuminated. The engine stalled as I frantically tried to move to the berm. There is a lot of large semi traffic on that road and I had a difficult time maneuvering safely without power to get onto the side of the road. I was unable to move completely into what I felt to be a safe area. I continued to try to start the motor after about 10 minutes I was finally able to get it started and move it to an exit where it was towed to community Chevrolet in Meadville Pennsylvania. The Chevy dealer at this point has told me it is a fuel pump problem and they are on back order and there is a strike by the auto workers. They are unsure as to when I can have this problem remedied with the parts that are needed.
High pitched whine during during acceleration.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while turning left or right, there was a grinding and scratching sound coming from underneath the front-end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the wheel was rubbing against the wheel well. The dealer completed a tire adjustment. The contact noticed over time that the tread on the front tires had been wearing very quickly. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who determined that the lower control arms had failed. The lower control arms were replaced, and the front wheels were re-aligned. The failure persisted causing the contact to have the wheels aligned 6 to 8 times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Purchased a 2021 Tahoe in late 2020 - May of 2021 the car started leaking water during a rain storm into the main cabin. Brought it to the dealership and they couldn't find any issues. Fast-forward to 2023 and it happened again in May and June. Brought the car to dealership and was told that the sunroof drains were clogged and it's a maintenance issue. I contacted GM and after about 2 months they had a field tech look at it....found that it wasn't a maintenance issue but a sunroof drainage tube that was installed incorrectly. I received an email saying that they would replace the tube and front carpet but I need to pay 50% of the bill. All the carpets and roof liner have been affected by the leaking and the car smells like mildew. I would expect them to at least replace everything and pay 100%. If they were responsible they would take the car and replace it with a new car for me. I purchased a $65,000+ vehicle with a factory defect that has caused water leaking into the car and i don't know if there will be future issues with electrical or mold.
Wife was driving home from work, vehicle started with no issues and she did not notice anything abnormal as she started her commute home, roughly 20 minute commute. She noticed the vehicle was vibrating, mildly at first and progressively getting worse. When she came to a stop at red light, she noticed the vibrating was worse at idle. She did not note any warning or cautions, she contacted me, i advised her to attempt to make it home. Once the light turned green, she accelerated and noticed the vehicle smoking, she pulled over into a parking lot, parked and shut it off. By this time all the warning in vehicle were flashing, battery and oil pressure gauges were fluctuating, check engine light was flashing, traction control, and other adaptive sensors i.e. blind spot, HUD where signals were displayed as off or not functioning. I was able to drive the vehicle to .4 miles to the dealership service center where we purchased the vehicle from in 2021 brand new off the lot. This occurred on 6 September 2023, still awaiting final diagnostic from from service department. They think its the lifter on the engine that failed, but they have disassemble engine to make exact determination. Once I receive diagnostic/invoice details I can provide that, luckily vehicle is still under warranty.
We were driving down the road and as I tried to accelerate the car would not go. Then I realized the car said push to start. My husband tried to push the neutral button and told me to restart it but I said you have to push the brake. All this is happening as we are coasting down a main road with speed limits of 55mph and my family is in the vehicle (including 2 toddlers in the back seat). Once we coast to a gravel area off the road I push the brakes and try to restart. My dash goes all black and I try to restart. It tells me battery low push to start. The starter engages and stays engaged until I push the start button again to turn off. The screen tells me it is shutting down functions to save battery. The check engine light is on. We tried 3x with same results. Finally we get out and my parents come to us. Within 15 mins of the initial incident, my husband and dad get in and start my vehicle. My dad suspected the fuel pump. The fuel was right under 1/4 tank but not low enough for the fuel light to be on. They drove to the fuel station, approximately 2 miles away, filled up the tank and drove it to an auto parts store who connected it to a diagnostic machine and it read fuel pump. They drove it back to my home, approximately 2 more miles. The check engine light is still on. I will call the dealership tomorrow. The vehicle has 23,000 miles and is still under manufacturer warranty.
Driving the car and brake system failure. Esc failure and front collision failure almost hit a car. Truck speed warning no faster then 62 miles per hour
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the instrument cluster went blank. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
While driving at night, the vehicle instrument cluster suddenly blacked out. All driver information pertaining to speed, fuel, tachometer, oil pressure and convenience lighting failed. The entire instrument cluster was an unlit black hole. I called GM and they advised there was no reports of this issue and no recalls pertaining to my specific vehicle number. A quick on line Google search revealed service bulletin [XXX].The GM associate I spoke with said they could not confirm or deny that other complaints of this problem had been brought to their attention. She stated that all parts in all their vehicles are vin number specific and that it’s possible I’m an isolated incident. I feel GM Is aware of this dangerous issue and should immediately issue a safety recall before the effected vehicles are involved in fatal crashes after being startled by this blackout event. This is clearly a driver safety issue that GM is not being proactive addressing. I was north of Pittsburg on Sunday 30 July 2023 when I seen that rain was approaching. I turned on my rain sensing wipers and as the rain approached and turn into a down pour I had NO wipers. Couldn't see where I was going, went to the left and hit rumble strips so I went right and heard the rumble strips there. Stopped and almost caused a pile up. Took it to the dealer on 03 August 2023 and the dealer (Walker Brothers) Edinboro,PA. trouble shot my vehicle and then ordered me a new wiper motor with NO idea when it will be in.
I was driving down the highway and my car simply stopped moving, pressed on the gas and nothing. Had it towed and the dealership said it was the fuel pump power control module which there was a recall on but I never received it. I was in a very dangerous situation and I am not happy.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle shuddered. The vehicle had been taken to a dealer on two separate occasions where the check engine warning light was reset; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Sudden engine shutdown in the middle of traffics. Vehicle was towed to a Chevrolet dealer. Chevrolet dealer replaced fuel pump power control module.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Service Safety Restraint" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that an unknown part needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the air bags would not deploy as needed in the event of a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The suit also says the lifters in affected engines were installed in an incorrect position in the lifter guide and do not always conform to design specifications. Plaintiffs claim their vehicles needed frequent valvetrain maintenance, including “more frequent oil changes, engine flushing and cleaning and/or replacing the valve lifter oil manifold and its filter at regular intervals.”
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that after coming to a stop, upon depressing the accelerator, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance warning light illuminated, and the vehicle inadvertently stopped with no vehicles or objects nearby. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance system was deactivated to prevent the failure from recurring. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,500.
I started my vehicle and I pulled it out of my garage. Whenever I went to push the brakes down before pulling out of my driveway, it seemed like the brake pedal was higher than it usually is because my shoe caught the edge of the peddle due to where I am used to feeling the top end of it to decompress it. sometimes I contribute that that to the type of footwear that I have on but I was wearing the same shoes I had worn driving the vehicle only 1 hour ago. I was not sure why that was but I kept pulling out of the driveway (maybe something was stuck to the bottom of my shoe?) I continued to pull out and drove up my road to the next intersection where there were vehicles in front and behind me at that point. As I approached the intersection, slowing down to 25ish mph, I decompressed my brake peddle and all sorts of messages about brake failure started to appear in my control center and the peddle went all the way to the floor without fully stopping the vehicle. It seemed to be able to slow the vehicle down but very so slightly. Luckily, the people ahead of me continued to drive forward and the road was going uphill so the vehicle slowed on its own due to the terrain, at which time, I advised my daughter who was in the backseat to hold on that I needed to put the car in Park while we were still moving slightly. We were slowed to about 2mph and I put the car in Park. I looked down at the brake peddle and there was a fliud that had leaked out on top my all weather floor mats (non a
Driving on freeway and heard loud pop. Moon roof shattered.
My Tahoe was running fine and then when I shut it off and returned 30 minutes later it would not start. I had it towed to a nearby dealership and I was told that several similar incidents have happened with my make and model where the fuel pump control module went bad. A technician replaced the module while it was in the tow truck so it could be unloaded and it started up. I was told that GM is aware of the issue and I have not heard about it and believe there should be a recall to replace these faulty modules.
I was driving the vehicle and it suddenly lost power - going from 55 MPH down to 0 then the engine just stopped. No warning lights went off, no stalling, no engine noise- completely lost power. Would not start after that for 20 minutes. Started after 20 minutes- and ran fine -like nothing happened. Had it towed to dealership where they diagnosed the problem as electrical. Two weeks later still waiting for the part. Dealer says it could be up to 3 months before they could locate the part.
Water leaking in from the roof area. I heard water above me, then after applying the brakes water came pouring in through the LED lights, seat belts, and other areas mostly on the passenger side of the vehicle. After pulling panels and looking, water was dripping down into the car getting airbags wet, the fuse panel, seat belts are soaked, carpet, and water inside LEDs and dripping on other electronics. Dealership unable to locate leak at this time and is a continuing problem.
Fuel pump control module diagnosed by the Chevrolet dealer in Iowa City, IA (Billion Chevy). We were on the interstate when the vehicle decelerated rapidly while passing a semi tractor trailer. I was able to control the vehicle and move to the right lane after the semi trailer went by and other cars moved back quickly. No warning light until the incident.
I’ve been dealing with an alignment issue since last June when I took in my 2021 Tahoe z71 with air ride suspension. It’s chewed up the stock tires at just 25,000 miles. It’s came out of alignment 3-4 times since then and Chevrolet is doing nothing about it. I’ve spoke with others that have the same vehicle and the same problem. I just purchased tires for $1,100 just over a month ago and I checked the alignment last week and it was out again after City Chevrolet fixed it on January 17th of 23.
I bought the vehicle (a Chevy Tahoe) brand new in 2021. After 7,000 miles the lifter in the motor broke. The top of the motor had to be rebuilt to accommodate a new lifter. Now, with 24,000 miles on the vehicle, another lifter just broke, so the motor has to be taken apart again. I am certain GM knows about this problem, as (the lifter issue) it is all over the internet, but GM will not issue a recall of the defective lifters. I would be very interested in joining a class action law suit to force GM to recall the defective (lifter) parts. In both instances when the lifters broke, there is no warning! The engine looses power and the vehicle "bucks and shakes". It is just a matter of time before this issues causes sever bodily harm because of this massive engine failure. I have all of the repair documentation.
Vehicle is displaying service safety restraint system error message which may affect airbag deployment. Dealer advised problem from GM with a harness being too short under seat and seat adjustment can disconnect SRS system which could fail during an accident. Advised no recall but repair parts were not currently available.
My tahoe has shut off several times. I am sometimes at a red light and it shuts off and won't turn on or itll eventually turn off but it has a ton of errors on the screen. This has happened about 6 times. Today, April 6th, it wouldn't even start. It has started at the dealership but the screens are blacked out. Also the back hatch is not working as well and it randomly happened. I just purchased this vehicle in September of 2022. And it only has about 40k miles on it. The first time it shut off on me it had less than 40k miles.
On three (3) different occasions, I put the SUV in Park and the car engaged, and the "P" lit up as engaged. As I took my foot off the brake, the SUV went into Drive and rolled. This last time, the SUV did this at my kid's school Ater putting it in Park, I took my foot off the brake and turned to get the kids unbuckled, and my foot accidentally pushed the gas pedal. The SUV went into drive on its own and the SUV drove over the sidewalk hitting a rock staircase causing an accident with all 4 kids in my SUV. This is the 3rd time, and I don't know what to do about it. Thankfully there were no kids in front of the SUV.
FUEL PUMP MODULE FAILURE. ENGINE DIED AT A STOP LIGHT AND WOULD NOT RESTART. UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO TOW OR REMOVE FROM HAZARDOUS ROADWAY. PART ON NATIONAL BACKORDER.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the warning message "service restraint system" was displayed and the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the electrical wiring under the front driver’s side seat was damaged from moving the seat back and forth. In addition, the contact also indicated that while operating the vehicle the message "Power Steering" was displayed and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
I have an on going problem with the emissions system on my 2021 Tahoe. The vehicle discharges raw diesel fuel and DEF from the exhaust tail pipe during cold startup. This discharge is overwhelming and is so strong it can be detected by smell from over fifty feet away. In addition to this issue the fumes enter the inside of the vehicle and at times it is so bad you need to open the windows. I believe this problem is unsafe as it poses a fire risk and a CO exposure risk to the vehicle occupants. The vehicle has been in the shop repeatedly for the past eighteen months with various parts replaced. To date none of the repairs have fixed the problem. In February GM issued a statement saying that this is normal operations.
Third row sealbelt buckle retention been a problem since 08/2022 and no one has given me a call. IF I get in a car accident it can increase the risk of injury for the people in the 3rd row. i have no accidents but I'm trying to prevent it from having one.
While driving on the highway there was a loud explosion like sound. The sunroof on the SUV completely shattered. There was no car in front of me and no overpasses. Sunroof shattered and glass came in the car. I was driving the speed limit which is 70MPH and there was no forewarning. GM is scheduled to look at the vehicle, I am waiting on their return call.
Without warning the engine shut off and lost power while driving. the engine light came on. i was able to pull over to the side of the road. I'm glad I wasn't at interstate speeds, that would of been bad. It was like i ran out of fuel. it was the fuel pump power control module according to the dealership.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle experienced phantom braking and stopped suddenly. The adaptive cruise control warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after several minutes the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Brakes squeal a lot. Had to pay close to 2k dollars for repairs because dealer refused to warranty
See BBB complaint #18695782 filed 1/6/2023. See NHTSA ID# 11500111
While driving in traffic the car shut off, engine stopped. When the car stopped it went into park. Could not restart the car. Starter worked and engine started but ran very rough then stopped several times. I could not completely shut off the car in an attempt to basically reboot. Car had to be towed to the dealer.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while pulling out of her driveway, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V739000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 11,000.
Panoramic sunroof exploded suddenly and without any warning.
Car stalled while driving on the highway, no warning, car became unresponsive and we almost had an accident attempting to move car off the highway. This was an extreme safety risk. Car was dead, unable to start. Towed car to dealership, told it was the fuel control module that was not working. Found out this was a known issue for 2021 Tahoe, no recall was issued for my vehicle, no one notified or warned me of the risk.
GM decided to use Brembo brand brake pads and rotors on the front of the newly redesigned 2021 PPV Tahoe. I have 16 of these vehicles in my fleet at the Sheriff’s Office and everyone one of them squeals really loudly when the brakes are applied. I now have one Tahoe out of service due to the fact it needs pads and rotors on all four corners. The main concern is there are no rotors available anywhere for these units.
Received an Over-the-Air update that rendered my vehicle unless. My vehicle would no longer start, or power on, or power on in accessory mode. It was stuck in Park, the electronic Parking Brake could not be disengaged, the door locks could not be operated and left unlocked, no lights, no warning lights, the emergency lights did not function, no horn, and most everything else. The only things still working were the radio, the driver's side powered seat would move, and the light came on for the Parking Brake. The battery was fully charged. I also started receiving messages through my Chevrolet APP that the vehicle had no air in the tires, no oil in the engine, and many other items that needed servicing. I am not sure what exact components or computers have failed yet. GM could not find any dealer to render aid and come to my location to reprogram the vehicle. It had to be towed to a dealer. With the electronic Parking Brake engaged, GM had a hard time trying to find a tow truck that wouldn't just drag the vehicle down my driveway and onto a flatbed.
On November 9th, 2022 my wife was returning from the store when our Tahoe lost power and the engine shut off. She was able to pull off the highway onto a side street prior to the engine shutting off. I met her at that spot to see what was going on with the vehicle. The car was parked on a slight hill and after checking the oil and other fluids I could not see an issue with the car and the car would still not start. I was able to tow the car to a flat spot and checked the fluids again. After about 45 minutes the car did restart with the check engine light on. We were able to get the vehicle to an auto shop about a 1/4 mile down the road where they were able to hook up their reader and see what the check engine light was for. A code of P129F came up which is the fuel pump module, pictures attached of screen. We then were able to get the car home and it was towed to a Chevy dealership the following day. There techs were able to find a recall number of 21V739000 which was issued on 9-23-2021 showed that this happened in certain 2021 Tahoe's. While our vin number did not fit into the vin numbers on the recall number I still feel this was the issue. I feel this could be a bigger safety issue with other vehicles on the road that did not fit into that recall could still have the issue. While we were lucky and know one was injured the next people may not be so lucky. Also since our Tahoe was not in the range of VIN numbers on the recall we are being forced to pay out of pocket 521.81.
Power steering has failed completely, can not turn at all unless its slightly.
2022 Tahoe was inspected for the announced recall. The manufacturer Chevy has no timeline for when the 3rd row seat belts will be repaired but only said we CANNOT use any of the 3rd row seats till fully repaired. I called chevy and ask them what’s the suggestion what’s if the passenger is 5 or more. Will the give rental fee or a loaner vehicle. They said no. This is totally unacceptable. GM is offering nothing to customers that purchased $74000+ vehicles from them for the very reason that they have big 3rd rows. How are families of 5 or more supposed to function in the meantime? NHTSA should exert all available pressure on GM to prioritize on-road vehicles and do it now.
Reading these
NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
