Tailgate is opening unexpectedly as I drive down the road and parked.
Tire = LT275/65R20. After 20 minutes on surface streets in 98° weather, entered freeway and heard a "thumping" sound every second at about 45 mph. Appeared to be the freeway but after accelerating to about 55 mph a loud bang was heard and the tire blew. This was a catastrophic failure where the tread fully separated from the wheel and did substantial damage to the side and wheel well of the truck. The rim was also damaged beyond repair.
The key constantly gets stuck in the ignition after shutting off the vehicle. Some times have have to start the car multiple times and move the steering wheel to get the key to come out. Sometimes that doesn't work and I have to play with it for up to 3 minutes just trying to get the key out.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the tailgate was independently unlatched. The contact stopped and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that the tailgate opened and closed independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a tailgate module failure. The contact was informed that the tailgate module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred two months after the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,500.
When I park and attempt to turn off my truck, the key will not turn completely all the way so I can take it out!!! Takes MULTIPLE TIMES which is EXTREMELY INCOVENIENT
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the tailgate opened independently while driving and while the vehicle was parked. The contact stated that failure also occurred while using the tow hitch and the tailgate was scratched. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES); and the contact linked the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty and was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
I have a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD diesel truck. Twice while driving uphill the transmission seemed to lock up with a very “jerky” move. GM has acknowledged this problem and has issued a recall. I have taken my truck and have had the recall “remedy” performed. However, THIS REMEDY IS A BAND AID NOT A SOLUTION. The remedy/recall is only reprogramming the computer that controls the transmission to warn the driver that the problem is about to occur and will limit the speed of the vehicle to not exceed the fifth gear until the problem is repaired. I feel the transmission issue should be addressed in the recall not delayed until the issue re-occurs. As per a letter I received from GM the repair that’s needed is Special Coverage N232395330 is the replacement of Transmission Valve Body.
Rear back-up camera is intermittent and is a safety concern due to the size of the vehicle. I makes it un-safe when backing up. This has been happening more and more. Screen is either black or icon displays that the camera is not working.
Repeated shift to park message even when in park. Resulting in many hours of shutting off and on, shifting between gears to get it to recognize it is in park. Dealership where purchased is trying to convince me it's a $700 fix with no recall. It is a known GM problem. This blatant disregard for proper repairs is costing GM customers thousands in additional repair for their gross negligence as well as endangering the safety of its customers. It additionally results in draining the battery, starter and transmission problems. GM needs to be held accountable since they know it is an issue.
Key gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out. I see lots of people online with the same issue.
The vehicle spontaneously caught fire in the engine compartment. The vehicle was parked in a driveway and the fire caused by the vehicle spread to a building and it also caught fire. Hood Country Fire Marshall Opened Case#[XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle gives "shift to park" warning when already in park. Occasionally, vehicle will not shut off. Once it does shut off, dash lights and controls do not shut off. Vehicle will not lock upon exit. Warning lights and beeping causes battery to drain. I have been left stranded with dead battery twice.
When shifting into park and turning ignition OFF a message appears on dash saying to “shift to park”. Vehicle will shut off but will not then shift, nor will steering will lock AND ignition will NOT shut off. It is unclear if vehicle is actually in Park mode. Vehicle has to be left running for up to several hours before transmission recognizes that it is in park and then ignition will turn off correctly. This issue has been experienced by many Chevrolet owners. Issue has been reported to GM.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate opened and closed inadvertently. The contact stated that while the tailgate button located on the tailgate was depressed, the tailgate failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the tailgate operated normally when the button inside the cabin of the vehicle or on the remote was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
The tail gate opens when parked and remote is on the counter. Tail gate now has damage from opening on its own and hitting the garage door. This has happened on multiple occasions and in multiple scenarios.
The fuel economy ump module is not working. The dealership said this is happening to all GMC models and it is a nation wide back order. Some dealerships have had vehicles sitting for 3+months and GMC will not do a recall. The expected fix date is “hopefully” February 2025
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the tailgate opened unexpectedly. The contact stated that the tailgate slammed downward. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed there was no recall coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000. The VIN was not available.
Tail gate is opening on its own. We checked the recall list and although our year, make and model is listed, the vin# doesn't show a recall. Clearly, there are more vehicles affected than GMC has included. This is a very serious safety issue and we thought you should be aware that perhaps the recall on the tailgates involve more vehicles than they've included.
Electronic trailer brake controller when using disconnects and reconnects turning trailer brakes on and off creating an unsafe situation by never knowing if trailer brakes are going work. Dealer states no problem found with controller and changed trailer plug. Not correcting issue. Tried 2 other trailers same issue occurred. Leading to believe controller is issue. Web search indicates there are many others with similar issue. Dealer states there are no recalls indicating this issue. This has been issue for a few weeks while traveling with a travel trailer.
The tailgate opens on it's own. This is unsafe because the tailgate can open without me knowing it and cause a safety hazard by hitting someone OR by items falling out of the bed of the truck while driving. That can cause injury or damage to people and/or property.
At night, when ever I backup with this vehicle, the backup camera in the Infotainment display is so bright, it is impossible to use the mirrors or view anything out of the windows. I did several searches on the internet, discovered that this was a problem and that this had occurred in GM vehicles years 2014-2019. A service bulletin 17-NA-269 described and applied a software upgrade to fix issue in those vehicles. I called 2 local dealers and they both said they had never heard of problem. I then visited one of those dealers in person, they then admitted that they had heard of problem, but did not have any resolution. I called GM in Detroit, and they attempted to assistme over the phone, but all of the things they suggested , I had already tried. Dimming dash lights and turning off infotainment display, neither suggestion helped. They said they did not have any other suggestions. I can throw a towel over the infotainment system display and that allows me to be able to use mirrors and see out of the windows. The danger is that I could back into something or someone and cause damage to local infrastructure or hurt or kill an individual that I could not see while backing up with vehicle.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle was equipped with a multi-flex tailgate. The contact stated that the top tailgate switch failed to unlock the tailgate and did not function as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The contact stated that the recall repair only repaired the bottom tailgate switch assembly. The contact was informed that the top tailgate switch assembly was not covered under the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Lost power while driving for 30 seconds. While on the interstate. Now truck battery has to be jumped to start. Dashboard giving out random codes. Check 4x4, check DEF( def is still at half full), check trailer( no trailer is connected) Took to dealership, 4 active codes P0336, P12A6, U029D, U029E. Test failed since code cleared U18D7, U18FE Current codes C1596, C15AC
Keep getting Shift to Park message. At times, the vehicle will not allow me to lock my vehicle after being shut off. I have to keep wiggling the shifter to get the message to clear.
Brakes and rotar issue. Within the first 8,000 miles the brake pads had to be replaced due to and excessive brake squeal. At 18,900 miles, my truck started to shimmy when I braked. Took it to the dealer who informed me that the rotar’s were warped and needed to be replaced. I have a Silverado HD and drive mostly city miles. No reason the brakes are failing at this low mileage. With the faulty rotar’s my very heavy vehicle is difficult to stop putting myself and drivers in danger. The brakes shimmy every time I brake and there has been no warning lamps or messages from my truck. GM is refusing to replace.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Keep getting shift to park message after placing truck in park and shutting off the vehicle.
I have always received tailgate open messages, but after putting the vehicle in park to check, it has never come open. It finally did come open when I was towing a trailer which caused damage on the tailgate. The dealership stated no recalls, and they couldn't find an issue with it.
Transfer case failed during hard braking in wet conditions. While braking to avoid a vehicle not yielding right of way the transfer case was damaged while in the Automatic 4 wheel drive mode of operation. The condition caused the vehicle to not operate properly in any mode of 4 wheel drive. In any mode of 4wd the vehicle would violently jerk at slow speed while turning. I thought it was a limited slip differential problem. It was brought to Stokes Chevrolet for service and was repaired (replaced transfer case) under warranty. The concern I have is the service advisor asked me if I normally operated the vehicle in Automatic 4 wheel drive to which I replied yes. I felt this was the safest mode of operation for the vehicle. The advisor then informed me that this is not recommended and could lead to damage. I am confused as GM says this will not cause damage but the service advisor says it will. Is Chevrolet aware of an issue with this mode of operation and if so how many of their automatic 4 wheel drive systems are affected by this issue.
When using the backup camera, the guidelines displayed on the screen do not line up center with the vehicle. Meaning if using the guidelines to reverse as intended, you will be too far to one side as a result. I have taken the vehicle to Chevrolet but they are unable to reprogram the display.
This truck has had ongoing issues with the braking system. From the point of purchase Ive noted and informed the dealer of a very soft brake pedal pressure, and its gotten to the point where the brakes have to be pumped to get enough braking power to stop the vehicle at lower speeds, at highway speeds the vehicle is not able to stop in an emergency braking situation without pumping the brake pedal to build pressure, and especially when loaded or towing a load under the recommended gvwr. This problem is magnified by the fact that since day one the rear brakes have been wearing at a much greater rate than the front brakes. As indicated by the vehicles on board diagnostics display. This has gotten to the point where the rear rotors are warped and the rear brakes stick at a stop and you can feel the release when you apply the throttle. This vehicle has had to have the rear end rebuilt not just once but now going on the second time. A GM engineer that came to look at the truck avoided addressing the brake issue after the dealership requested General Motors assistance from their tech and then engineering department. This vehicles braking system represents a great risk for injury and or accident in its present condition, and the dealer Bradley Chevrolet Lake Havasu City Arizona as well as General Motors Customer Care Dept. has been made aware of this and has yet to take any action. This incident started back in Nov 22 and has been ongoing.... I believe this vehicle in its current st
The tailgate, repeatedly came open on the freeway at freeway speeds, towing a trailer, the tailgate came down on top of the trailer mechanism causing damage to the tail gate as well as the tailgate trim. There was no way to secure tailgate and keep it from opening intermittently. Once I could I took it to the dealership and they acknowledged that the switch was malfunctioning as witnessed by a cell phone video that I took of it malfunctioning and attempting to unlock and open while parked. The dealership acknowledged that there was a recall to be issued and for the time being cut the wire to allow the tailgate to be opened by the hand switch and is only able to open by the remote.
Even though electronic parking brake has NOT been set when parking, upon leaving from parking space, electronic parking brake engages and vehicle feels and sounds as though parking brake has been applied. My concern is that parking brake may engage while driving at speed and loss of vehicle control could occur. This problem is intermittent and has occurred 6 or 7 times during the month of February 2024. Vehicle has 6500 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the tailgate would release unintendedly. The failure occurred several times daily. The dealer was contacted, and it was determined the failure was related to the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 36,800. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle surged, and the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. After a visual inspection of the vehicle, the contact observed fluid leaking from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the front differential. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred once before, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 38,000. The contact stated his Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD diesel HAS been repaired. They replaced, again, the faulty front differential and also discovered the transfer case fluid was black indicating it was ready to fail again. Also, they replaced the fluid in the transfer case.
I was almost run over by a Semi-Truck when entering the freeway because my 2022 Chevrolet Truck would not accelerate. I was told at the dealer the loss of power was intentionally caused by the onboard computer. It is programed by the manufacturer to do this anytime certain repairs may be needed. In my case, the life-threatening event I experienced took place because a sensor went out and the computer thought a repair was needed.
Inner brakes are worn down to the sensor at 35,000 miles. While the outside brakes are perfectly fine not much wear. There is a recall on the brake valve issue and bpmv same year and model of mine but my vin does not fall under that recall. I believe there is something wrong inside my rear brake system that is causing inner brakes to be worn that low compared to the outside brakes.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he smelled a fuel odor throughout the vehicle. The contact then stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that fuel was leaking from the exhaust and smoke came from the front driver’s side of the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but had not received a call back. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked, and he was in the rear of the truck bed releasing the boat from the trailer hitch, the vehicle inadvertently rolled into the lake. The contact stated that when the vehicle was pulled from the lake, the parking brake malfunction warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I took delivery of my 2022 Chevy Silverado in March, 2022. I still does not have the park assist and Emergency Stop when backing up installed, which of course is a safety hazzard.
The way this truck is designed is there is a 2 inch x 2 inch square metal framing piece that runs along the entire length of the truck. The opening to the pipe is NOT blocked off. The opening points up at the gap that exists between the tailgate and the bed of the truck when the tailgate is open. I had my keys on the tailgate and they slipped and fell - anywhere else they would have fell straight to the ground, but they happened to fall into this framing piece that does not have a cap or anything at all. AAA says this is the third one they've seen in my area this month. My safety concerns are twofold: 1. The keys are moving the entire length of that framing piece that extends the entire length of the truck. I am concerned that if they are close to the cab/front of the truck, my vehicle could be unlocked and potentially stolen until the keys are able to be retrieved. 2. If my keys (which are bulky) can fall in there, there is a significant concern that other debris like leaves, sticks, or anything in the bed off the truck can fall into that same space, as well as moisture/water. I am concerned that this will increase the likelyhood of rust occuring in the framing of the vehicle. I have reported my concerns to GM/Chevrolet and they are stating it is not their concern. They aren't even reviewing the videos that I took of the issue. The dealer has confirmed the location of the keys is in the framework of the truck. They are not addressing my concerns that this could cause early r
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that on four occasions while driving at various speeds with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle inadvertently slowed down and failed to exceed 50 MPH. The check emissions warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,980.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle began making screeching and clunking noises. The instrument panel displayed that the vehicle was shifting from 2WD to 4WD. The contact stated that after arriving at his destination and parking the vehicle, the vehicle failed to move. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the front differential had separated; however, it would be an extensive amount of time before the part would be available to repair the vehicle due to the part being on backorder. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000. The contact stated that in addition to the front differential failure, the transfer case was also damaged. GM customer service provided the contact will a rental truck while their vehicle was in the shop. Both the front differential and the transfer case were replaced.
The transmission oil coolant rubs against the engine oil coolant line causing one or both lines to leak out. There are no warning lights when this happens, the vehicle will just stop accelerating. I was on the freeway pulling a trailer weighing about 9k pounds, traveling at about 75 mph when this happened to me. I was able to clear the traffic and limp off the freeway. The car was towed to Henson Chevrolet Buick GMC in Madisonville, TX. I contact my insurance company USAA and explained what happened they did not wish to look into it. The dealership is very vague when providing updates. I have been also working with a GM customer service rep. No one seems to really care about the safety issue. I have requested a detailed report of the issues and the repairs. The vehicle has been in the shop at the dealership since 8/13/2022.
Steering wheel kept slowly moving to right about 20 degrees to right to drive straight. This caused the truck to disable electronic stability control due to excessive steering angle. Brought to dealer for service they stated nothing was loose on the vehicle and that they could not align it until they received some adapters for their alignment machine. I took the vehicle home and found that the left tie rod jam nut had not been tightened during manufacture which allowed the alignment to come out of adjustment. These need to be checked on this model truck and trucks need alignment checks.
Vehicle purchased new in November of 2021 and driven approximately 6,000 miles. Under windy conditions, particularly at highway speeds, the truck is nearly impossible to drive straight down the road and keep under control. It feels as if you're driving on ice and takes a lot of effort to get back under control. In addition, wind blasts from semi-trucks blow the truck all over the road. Other wind blasts such as those experienced when passing under an overpass or a clearing of woods or hilly terrain that allows for gusts of cross winds result in an equally frightening experience. This truck is a heavy duty 3/4-ton advertised for its towing ability. I have driven 3-4,000 miles (of the 6,000) towing a trailer. The truck steers and handles just as poorly while towing and results in an equally frightening experience I have had the truck at the dealership for over 20 days and although they acknowledge the problem, they have not been able to determine the cause of the problem. The dealership had a GM engineer inspect the truck and his opinion is that this type of handling is "a normal characteristic of the truck". I have attached a copy of the dealership report. I am very fearful that having this vehicle on the road is a serious hazard and will result in a serious accident. with possible injury and/or death. I have owned hundreds of vehicles, driven millions of miles in my life and have never experienced anything like this.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
