2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 complaints

I purchased a pre-owned Chevrolet Silverado Z71, 4WD, off-road, LTZ pickup truck (Model # C1500 k 1500, VIN [XXX] , NAIC # XXX) from Wally Edgar Chevrolet in Lake Orion, Michigan on 3/28/24. It has the V8 – 5.3 L gasoline engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle was, and still is, in very good condition (no scratches, dents, and a good running engine). However, on 10/29/2025 the vehicle started not being able to shift out of 1st gear. I immediately took it to Cruise Transmission in Rochester Hills, Michigan to have it evaluated. They indicated that the transmission “valve body” needed to be replaced at a cost of about $3,000. Their problem was that they couldn’t locate that part anywhere, and said it might be a month or more before it would be available! After not hearing anything for a couple of months (checking-in occasionally), I began to try to find out why that part wasn’t available. When I did a Google search on “can you sue GM if they can’t provide parts for a [XXX] vehicle”, it came back with the fact that there was a class-action lawsuit in progress for transmission issues on the 2015-2019 Chevy Silverado pickup trucks with 8-speed transmissions. When I inquired with two of the main law firms associated with the class-action lawsuit they indicated that I wasn’t a candidate for the suit because my vehicle was out of the warranty period. I indicated that I understood that, but that I wasn’t able to use my vehicle because the part wasn’t available anyw

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to respond. The failure was intermittent but had become a recurring failure. Occasionally, while attempting to start the vehicle, the starter was making an abnormal clicking sound, but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the 12-Volt battery had been tested and was deemed to be in optimal condition. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

AFTER REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD AT SAFELITE, MY LANE KEEPING ASSIST SYSTEM AND AUTO STOP IS NOT WORKING

Tailgate opens automatically on its own while parked and while driving. This also causes the battery to drain down to being dead as it continues to operate the actuator I had to unplug the electronic tailgate switch to stop the battery from graining. Besides the battery draining, the tailgate opened when I had a load in the bed of the pick up truck as I drove causing a possible unsafe load and spillage onto the road way. Dealership notified. Appt scheduled for Jan7 2026. No warning lamps came on.

Onstar telematic module. Paying monthly for a safety service that does not work. My truck has 20k miles on it and has been in the shop multiple times for issues that should not have been issues. No warnings, Onstar module just stopped functioning. Known issue but, I have to spend more hours at my dealership and pay $150 diagnostics fee for them to tell me what Onstar already confirmed. All safety features disabled, all satellite and wireless features disabled. GM is now saying it will not be covered under warranty. Again, the truck has 20k miles and this is a MAJOR safety issue that is being paid for monthly and was a major factor in the decision to purchase this vehicle.

The vehicle intermittently enters a reduced power/limp mode resulting in a sudden loss of acceleration while driving. This has occurred multiple times, including while towing, when the vehicle was unable to safely maintain or reach highway speeds. The loss of power creates a dangerous condition when merging or driving in traffic. Warning messages indicating reduced engine power have appeared, and diagnostic trouble codes have cleared without repair. Despite this, the problem continues to reoccur. The condition is intermittent and not consistently reproducible during dealer diagnostics. The vehicle is currently available for inspection.

Engine seized up at 70 mph on highway. Loss of all power and was lucky to coast off road in heavy traffic. Vehicle had just passed safety recall inspection two weeks earlier. Replacement engine installed at dealership, but it failed and second replacement engine currently being installed.

The problem that happened on my truck was the telecommunication module went out at 45k miles. That controls several features on my truck such as compass, navigation, remote start from cell phone, clock and several others. The biggest problem is that a check engine light pops up and you cant use your key fob to remote start your truck since the check engine light is on. I took it to the GM dealer to get fixed and they had to replace the module. According to my service advisor this is a common problem and I am looking for a recall or more information into why it failed.

Vehicle lost power while driving on highway 2days in a row dealer Syed they could not find any problems

My Chevy Silverado was repaired by 3 different certified Chevy dealers about 10 times for a variety of issues. The last time I brought my truck to Bridgewater Chevy I was told I need an engine replacement. The certified dealers failed to identify the root cause to all the issues. All the symptoms point to engine fail eventually occurring

I've owned the 2022 Silverado High Country with 6.2L engine. Over the past 3.5 years, the engine has had oil consumption issues where I was required to take the vehicle to Chevrolet dealership every 500 miles in Hampton, VA to have the oil level checked. I kept getting the message "low Oil Level" on the information center. I also kept hearing loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Chevy service would top off the oil level (sometimes 1/2 or 1+ quart low), and send me on my way. After oil consumption and ticking noise continued, I was notified by Dealer that a Safety Recall April 2025 was issued by GM. I met with GM Representative and Chevy Service Manager April 2025, and based on my truck history with oil consumption and lifter noise, decision was made to replace engine. New Engine was installed May 2025 and all appeared to be good to go. However, in November 2025 I heard the loud clicking noise in the new engine. Hampton, VA Chevy service conducted an inspection and found a bent push rod in new engine. Service replaced the push rod and all lifters based on history of lifter issues.

Engine light is on with DTC P1098 due to a faulty engine coolant control valve requiring replacement. Vehicle displays warning message “service transmission, unable to shift soon” due to faulty component in electronic shifter requiring replacement.

Torque converter needs to be replaced at about 35000 miles. Power steering rack needs replacing at 36000 miles. Both of which would be considered major repairs for a vehicle with such low mileage.

Was taking an exit car felt like lose control and got hit with the sign pole on the exit. I have been complaining for the safety reasons and the location and other issues in car to onstar and Chevy for months. Went to Freeport Chevy dealer and changed oil, when I bought the car pre-approved but the when I went for the service they said no oil was changed since the car was new. And I have been paying for all the warranty and extended service but they said all oil change and others will cost approx $3200. They changed the oil but I have been seeing on the Chevy app filter was never changed and the car didn’t feel same after the service.

Valve body failed in Dec. 2024 and they replaced it. Valve body failed again in April 2025, they replaced it with new. Valve body failed again in Oct 2025, they said they will not replace it. The brakes locked up for a few seconds making a loud noise, it would not go in reverse which i showed the mechanic all three times, and it would not go over 35mph. they told me the new transmission they put in it in April of 2025, was not warrantied. This has been an on going issue since the original recall, and they refuse to fix it correctly. You will see from the documents, it has been in the shop 6 times in 10 months. now it sits in my yard because I don't want to get in a accident if it goes out while I'm driving. I can not go south for the winter like we usually do because of the truck. Chevy doesn't seem to want to fix the on going issue which was a recall.

The vehicle was purchased new from the dealer in June of 2022. Since the purchase the vehicle has had multiple issues that are safety concerns. The backup camera cuts out on average 1 out of every 10 times the vehicle is placed in reverse always in low light situations like parking garages, night time driving or overcast/rainy weather. The vehicle has been in to GM on multiple occassions to have issue diagnosed and is still not repaired and TSB states for dealerships not to do more work to fix as this is a computer program issue and not a component issue, nonetheless the camera is still not functioning. The second area of failure is the transmission shift module. This module determines when the vehicle has been shifted out of park into R, N or D. The module has been replaced 2 times in 55,000 miles. When the module goes bad the vehicle gives a warning that the ability to shift will be lost. Finally the last safety issue that has been largely reported is the failure of the Telematics Onstar Module which runs the onboard communications for Onstar, Maps, GPS, and other systems that use the GPS signal. This means that any hands free technology tied to these systems no longer work leading to legal issues in most states that have hands free requirements. GM is charging around $1,000 to replace the Onstar module and it is taking 6 months or longer to even access the part if at all. The drivers side window regulator cable completely rusted through and broke. There should be a recall as there is a ton of videos on YouTube on how to fix this. Every single one of us the bottom cable completely rusted through and broke on the regulator. First picture is old rusted broke one, 2nd is the new gm part, You can see it was sitting in water, my truck is less than 3 years old. Oh it’s always the driver side

4x4 automatically engages and disengages after the 6.2 engine recall replacement. Dealerships has no solution to the matter. This makes the truck stop operating at normal 2wd speed and limits the turning radius of the truck since it changes to 4wd

My check engine light came on and the diagnostic code was p1098. I noticed there was a special warranty for my make and model and engine but for some reason mine does not have this special warranty. I have researched and found out this is a common problem with these trucks. I think there should be a recall for this as it poses safety problems and concerns when it enters limp mode

I have a 2022 Chevy Silverado and my wifi, onstar, gps mapping is not working. I got the run around from the dealership and they told me to call onstar because my onstar and wifi it's not working. Turns out the Telematic Control Module is defective and not working. They want me to pay $450 for the part and $155 labor to fix this issue. I have 54245 miles on my truck so it's not covered under the bumper to bumper yet this is a known issue with this part and Chevy or Onstar should cover the replacement. I see all the complaints online and nothing being done. How are people supposed to have confidence in the Onstar program when they go to use it and it's broken? There's no indicator until it's just not working. I am filing a complaint because my 2022 high country Chevrolet Silverado truck has experienced multiple dangerou transmission failures 4all occurring while driving resulting in complete loss of power sudden stalling in traffic placing everyone in danger.This vehicle has malfunction repeatedly since just day 10 after purchase date and each breakdown has been transmission related occurring suddenly transmission was replaced twice in last 4 months. First incident November 27, 2024 the truck stalled in the middle of the road on card sound heading to a job in the Florida Keys. The vehicle locked up while driving putting us at extreme risk two-lane road next to water with no shoulder. The truck remained in the service department at BOMNIN Chevrolet West Kendall for 73 days until February 7, 2025. The second incident was only 13 days after The truck again experience loss of power & transmission malfunction the second safety incident for the same issue vehicle was in the shop until March 5, 2025, third safety incident for the same issue was June 25, 2025 once again same issue transmission we took the truck back for service BOMNIN Chevrolet West Kendall. The truck remained in the shop for a full month. although the truck was returned July 25, 2025 and they said transmission was replaced. The truck continued to give us issues leading us to the last incident for the same exact thing transmission failed again October 7, 2025. again in the middle of a very dangerous street in Hialeah, Flo

The Telematics module on my car stopped working. It caused all of my warning tones to go out and are not audible. Furthermore the OnStar system is not working. I have read a lot of post and it seems like the module is a high fail item and if it fails after the manufactures warranty then we are left with a pretty hefty bill just to get one of the safety features to work. GM needs to fix this at their expense given the amount of modules that have failed in the past few years on newer vehicles.

The engine started knocking and squeaking. Mileage is 42,142

Since brand new engine has had oil consumption issues. Countless times I have been told it is ok and there is no problems with it. I took it to a different dealer and I am now being told I need to replace pistons and rings.

Recently hit a deer running between 75-80 mph. Air bags fired but failed to deploy.

The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the feature was not meant to come with the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

BACK ROAD - 25-30 MPH, TRUCK "SLOWED" WENT TO ACCELERATE WITH NO RESPONSE, TRUCK WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND "PRESS START". SLOWED AND STOPPED NEAR SIDE OF ROAD. WOULD NOT RESTART. ENGINE SEIZED. TWO HOURS PLUS LATER, ABLE TO GET TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO TOW TO STEPSONS HOME. SERVICE CONTACTED AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER (ALSO UNKNOWN TO HOW TO GET TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO GET ONTO FLATBED) TOWED THE TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP TO AWAIT INSPECTION AND REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE. BATTERY DISCONNECTED CURRENTLY. HOWEVER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AFTER EPISODE.

On Sunday October 12th, 2025, we were driving in Grand Rapids,MN when our truck (2002 Silverado [XXX] ) suddenly lost power. We were on a main highway without shoulders. The truck would not restart. The truck would not shift out of park to be rolled/pushed off the road. After about an hour, a tow truck arrived and towed the truck to our home ($200). We connected the ODB2 Code reader and found code P129F. After a bit of research, this code is related to a failed Fuel Pump Control Module (GM 13544060). The module is superseded with GM 13554821. We found this fuel control model is the subject of a recall (N252516900) on various GM vehicles that share a similar body design and year to this truck with this exact module. A semi-local dealer had the replacement part (GM 13554821 - $60) and we were able to replace it Monday morning to bring the vehicle back into service. I am requesting the following - Expand the recall to include any vehicles with this known-faulty Fuel pump control module INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At 62,000 miles this engine blew up after regular maintenance.

The throttle body and valve body failed at 90,500 miles. When this occurred it went into limp mode and I could not travel ov 20 mph. Also would not go in reverse. This was very dangerous for me since most travel need to be done at high speed. Also not being able auto go in reverse has significant potential for danger. This failure has been confirmed at a Chevrolet Dealer.The dealer diagnosed the issue and confirmed the problem. The failure came out of no where with no prior performance issue. The engine light came on and the limp mode message appeared.

Megafuse on starter solenoid terminal of the buss bar has blown twice in a month, leaving a serious burn mark on buss bar where contact is made with fuse. Possible fire hazard inside engine bay on top of battery. This also keeps the vehicle from starting. 1 click, no start. Battery has full charge, jumping has no effect. Possible cause is ground wire short/fault between negative terminal and vehicle frame/body. No check engine light, no battery light, or any other indication of issue with starter or battery.

While driving the tailgate released on its own. The warning lamp came on after the tailgate released, however if I had items in the back they could have been thrown out onto the highway. Other VIN numbers with this tailgate has a recall but for some reason my VIN was not included.

The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. After restarting the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, which prompted the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the connecting rod failure had resulted in engine damage. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000(Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 95,000.

We are having 2 problems with this vehicle. The first is the key in the ignition is not always removeable when you turn the truck off. The second is we are told called the chevy shudder. It almost feels like the wheels pause for a micro second. It feels like the there is something wrong in the transmission, drive train area. The truck started doing this when it had less than 50,000 miles on it. It hasn't broke down yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it did any day now.

The truck lost power without warning. No warning lights, messages or other symptoms prior to the truck not having any power. Scary because we where traveling at around 40-50 mph and the truck lost power while on the road with other vehicles. The truck is at a dealership now being investigated.

Harsh jerking when downshifting when driving in AWD, it happens when I release the the gas pedal. It happened when I was going 10, 30 40, 50 mph.

Transmission I believe is the problem, when driving at speeds any where between 10 to 60 a very harsh jerk happens when down shifting, as I let go of the gas. It is harsh enough that it is unsafe. I took it to the dealer Autonation ChevyGilbert and dealer acknowledged condition but refused to apply GM TSB 24-NA-167 and Service Update N222383250, claiming VIN not applicable despite matching transmission and symptoms. Dealer says I should not drive the truck in Auto AWD.

Issue: (1) Was parking truck and as I placed the shifter into "R", it would not stay in "R" I could not engage reverse. After 3-4 times, I pulled straight forward and attempted to shift the vehicle into "R". It finally locked into "R" and I was able to back the truck up. I also experienced a hard shift when I had placed it into "D" to pull forward. Issue: (2) Earlier that day, was as I was backing out of my driveway, I noticed my backup video, went out, and intermittently, came back on. at one point it displayed a circle with a triangle?

This truck is locking up momentarily, sometimes at high rates of speed on the interstate. It is very violent and jars the neck of my and my passengers. It leaves tire skid marks on the highway at high rates of speeds. It happens when i slow down or when the truck tries to shift gears. Turns out, GM HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, (N242454440) but my VIN is not included for some reason. The Chevy dealer has confirmed this issue and is recommending a new transmission. This has been ongoing since July and I am on pins and needles every time I drive this vehicle. Can you please encourage GM to include my VIN in their recall: N242454440, holding me harmless for the repairs?

Difficulty shifting from Drive to Park.

On September 16 2025 sudden loss of acceleration and reduced engine power with check engine light turning on. No issues or symptoms prior. Dealership is replacing the transmission under warranty.

Vehicle has used an abnormal amount of oil since new Now uses 1 quart of oil every 500 miles Have been trying to get recall inspection done for three weeks with no response from dealer or manufacturer

Got Engine Light and Reduced Power Message. Took To My Chevrolet Dealer Engine Codes P0700 and P0747 Which are Transmission Control System Malfunction and Pressure Control Solenoid A Stuck On. When this happens the truck stalls but keeps running in Limp Mode. I was told by Chevrolet Dealer it was a common problem with the 10L80 Transmission and it needed a New Valve Body installed. Because it is a common Problem it could take 2 weeks to 2 Months to come in and would be covered under warranty and DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL IT COULD BE REPAIRED,

I have contacted a dealer on 3 occasions to help me with an unrepaired recall. I contacted GM directly regarding the recall. They won't look at my truck to determine what needs to be done.

The contact stated that while making minor steering adjustments or turning to the right or the left, the vehicle skidded. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was idling roughly and was vibrating noticeably while stopped at a traffic light or while slowing down for traffic. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. Recently, while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and unexpectedly downshifted to first gear. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the RPMs elevated to 4,500 RPM. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle, and the vehicle was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was revving abnormally and failed to shift out of first gear. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended and lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had thrown two rods and the crankshaft, and the engine had seized. The dealer replaced the engine; however, the vehicle was difficult to start for two days after it was picked up from the dealer. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a harness connection failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle made an abnormally loud squeaking sound at startup. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with idle pulley failure. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Safety Concern and Costly Repair – 2022 Chevy Silverado Rear Window Leak. I am writing to raise a serious concern regarding a known defect in the 2022 Chevy Silverado involving the sliding rear window. The window is prone to leaking, and in my case, every time it rained or I went through a car wash, the headliner above the rear seats became saturated. Upon consulting with the dealership, I was informed that this is a documented issue and that a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) has been issued. They advised immediate repair due to the risk of water intrusion damaging the electrical wiring associated with the airbag system. This poses a significant safety hazard, as compromised wiring could result in airbag malfunction or failure to deploy during an accident. Despite this being a known manufacturing or design flaw, I was charged over $800 for the necessary repair. Given the potential impact on critical safety features, this issue warrants urgent attention and accountability. It is deeply concerning that such a defect could jeopardize passenger safety and yet result in a substantial out-of-pocket expense for the owner. I strongly urge a review of this matter and consideration for reimbursement or broader corrective action to ensure customer safety and trust.
