ESC error code come on with a traction control off symbol and the drive Steering Assist Reduced Drive with care. I lost my power steering out of now here when driving on roads that are not very smooth or if I turn my wheel all the way to one side. I was able to muscle the truck home safely.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, she noticed in the rearview mirror that her steel chainsaw was hanging from the vehicle and pulled over to the right side of the road. Once outside the vehicle, she noticed the tailgate opened independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.
We went to an appointment and when we got back in the car, a message was on the screen. It said that the brake system has failed and we could only drive 43 mph maximum! The engine light was on and we could not accelerate beyond 43 mph. This is extremely dangerous when driving on a highway! We drove home on the interstate going 43 mph in a 70 mph zone! We had small children in the car and almost got into a few accidents due to other aggressive drivers. We then called local dealers who said that they were too busy to take our truck for weeks! They also said that our truck was not covered under warranty. So we took it to a local body shop. They fixed it for just above $500. It worked for a week and broke again, then they fixed it again for free. The brake failure 43 mph light came on for the 3rd time. We took it Garber and they fixed it after 2 weeks and charged us a fortune. Invoice attached. A few weeks later the same light came back on. Garber then took another 2 weeks to fix it! I’m writing here as I’ve seen other silverados recalled for the same issue but not my exact truck (year). It’s obviously faulty software and it should not be the customers responsibility to fix. Especially with a vehicle under 20k miles! There is absolutely no way that we will ever buy a GM again but the important part here is that other people are not put into a dangerous situation like we were. Besides dealing with this issue for well over a month - the important part is safety. I can’t understand
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while activating the rear window defroster, there was a crackling and sizzling electrical sound coming from the lower section of the windshield were the electrical components were located. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were contacted but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 49,000.
I'm not sure what to call most of this but my truck has been vibrating when getting up to about 50 mph. When putting in gear it shows you put it in the gear wanted put doesn't register sometimes and perks you and clicks. The entire front end grinds, pops and clicks when turning forward or backwards. When doing the steering wheel will get stuck and want turn for a split second in turn causing steering To be misaligned causing you to basically steer the wheel in an unnatural position until you stop put it in park then proceed to drive again. I have had these issues since we bought the vehicle brand new. We have to get an alignment and balance rotation like every 6 months for it to only help for a about a month to not be as bad.
The truck caught on fire while I was returning from a trip out of state and then it appears it came from underneath either the transmission the engine or electrical. While returning home a message came on the panel on the highway, saying transmission, hot idle run I pulled off and did this and after about 15 minutes, the message light went off and I pursued Coming home nothing was wrong with the truck. After I dropped off to the passengers, I was on the way home and turned on home road and the message came on that says truck powering down all the lights came on the dashboard. I put the truck in park and shut the engine off had a manly open the doors and got out and smoke was rolling from underneath the truck. I grabbed the cell phones and told my passenger to call 911. I went back into the center of the cab to grab something out of the center council and flames came from underneath the hood up the glass of the windshield right in the middle of the truck. Backed away I called 911 again. Troy fire department responded in about six minutes. The truck was engulfed and gone. Ohio state patrol give me a claim number of [XXX] the instant [XXX]. There has been no problem with the truck or vehicle during the time I owned it. It was regularly service. It had 109667 miles on it. The truck was a 2020 Silverado from Bill Harris Ashland. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Rear end went out within drivetrain warranty period. Chevy claimed it was due to a leak even though there was no evidence of one and they couldn’t produce the part. Almost immediately after getting it back it started to have transmission problems (8L90). They again claimed there wasn’t a problem. The truck now has 120,000 miles on it and we are replacing the transmission after it would drop gears and, finally, wouldn’t go into reverse.
I was driving the vehicle but it sounded like it was popping when I would turn and when I shifted gears. As a result, my brakes were not working and I almost hit another vehicle. I took it to the dealership where they claimed they fixed the issue. When I picked it up this past Saturday, within a block of the dealership, the truck began shaking and a rattling noise could be heard. I had to take the truck back to the dealership. The truck is at the dealership where it is supposed to be inspected again and hopefully properly fixed.
While the vehicle was in operation, the drivers side mirror fell off. The is a safety risk as I was not able to use mirror to check for vehicles in blind spot or in left lane as I was driving. Not to mention, as per NYS vehicle and traffic law, vehicles have to have at least a drivers side rear view mirror while in operation. After the vehicle was parked, inspection of the mirror assembly found severely corroded swivel and corrosion on the bolts holding mirror on the truck.
While driving on the freeway the right control arm broke.
The Electronic Steering assist stopped working while I was driving to work. Was leaving a stop sign and steering wheel became stuff and notifications on dash appeared. Was able to get to side of the road and turned vehicle off for 20-30 mins and started back up and steering was normal. Notifications on the dash were: Service Power Steering and Service Trailer Braking System. Search online showed this is a known issue that has happened with these vehicles for years and clearly hasnt been addressed. This is very dangerous. Vehicle has 42k miles on it. I had the "Service Trailer Braking System" notification come on a couple times previously and steering felt "sloppy" but immediately went away. And Ive never used the trailer braking system so I didnt think anything of it.
I'm beginning to have similar problems with the 6.2 ecotec3 engine that gm has known problems and hasn't recalled them. Dealer indicates metal shavings from the main motor bearings. Just like others I will experience a total motor failure at anytime. This will be catastrophic if motor fails and shuts down. I fear I will be rear-ended or not be able to get out of harms way. This has happened to many with the same motor. Why would there not be a safety recall on a known safety issue. Others affected have been injured even killed because there vehicle just stopped in the middle of a roadway. I currently fear for my families safety and cannot simply opt out of a vehicle with only 18,000 and thousands invested. Instead it sits waiting for the right thing to be done. To be repaired to safely use. Thank you kindly.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom, bought new on August 10, 2020. On August 24, 2020 I returned the vehicle to the dealership with 524 miles on the odometer, for hard downshifting at low speeds. The technician returned the truck with 531 miles, stating that he could not duplicate the issue. The issue continued along with occasional shudder at speeds around 40-50 m.p.h. On December 14, 2022 I took the truck to a different dealership with 1,616 miles and it was returned with 1,625 miles on the odometer. The technician found a slight shudder at 25-30 m.p.h. under light acceleration, but could not duplicate any other malfunction. The technician stated there was no metal debris in the fluid pan and performed a flush and refill of transmission fluid, installed updated thermal bypass valve and three seals. The issues still persisted, but not as harsh or as frequently prior to this service. I returned to the original dealership again on September 3, 2020 with the same concerns at approximately 28-K miles. Again, after having my truck (4) days, the original dealership's technician stated that he could not duplicate the problem(s).
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the contact experienced resistance while using the gear shift lever to drive and there was a hesitation while shifting gear. Additionally, while in reverse on several occasions, the back over prevention screen went black and failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Truck was purchased from an authorized chevy dealership less than 6 months ago. Truck had transmission service just before purchasing it as it was *maintenance* not repairs. However all of a sudden the truck will stop accelerating in the middle of intersections where you typically would have a 1-2 or 2-3 shift. along with during acceleration on highway it will decide it doesnt want to shift anymore to a higher gear than 4th or 5th. This is causing a constant safety threat as i cannot control when the vehicle will move under its own power. This is a known problem with cheverolet as they will replace the parts that cause this if its under warranty however mine is not. Although the warranty is up the issue is caused by poor manufacturing process and they know that.
While driving 55+mph on a parkway the service parking brake, check engine light and the traction control light came on with a warning "Engine Power Reduced" which was dangerous because I could not accelerate and there was not a spot to pull over. This is frustrating due to the fact that I was having this same issue 6 months ago and Chevrolet said it was a wiring issue and it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had 42k miles. Chevrolet said it was a known issue but it was not at the level of a recall and it cost $1800 to fix.
“Service power steering soon” message appeared and I took it to a Chevrolet dealership and I was informed I needed to replace the power steering module for a total of $2300 for parts a labor. Now the power steering will randomly stop, making it almost impossible to drive. There are hundreds of threads online of this model having the same issue and this should be a recall because someone is going to get injured.
THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH KNOWN LEAKS AT THE REAR SPOILER/ 3RD. BRAKE LIGHT. DUE TO THIS LEAK, THERE IS AN ODOR IN THE VEHICLE CAUSED BY MOLD OR MILDEW WHICH IS CREATING BREATHING AND ALERGY ISSUES. I RECENTLY HAD OPEN HEART SURGURY AND THIS IS STARTING TO EFFECT ME TO THE POINT I CAN NOT BE IN MY VEHICLE WITHOUT THE WINDOWS ROLLED ALL THE WAY DOWN. AND I GO INTO SNEEZING FITS WICH IS A SAFETY CONCERN
Our 2020 Chevy 1500 Trail Boss was waiting for an ordered instrument cluster at service department. The surveillance camera, film the vehicle catch on fire after being parked for 2 days. The smoke started from the inside, and the vehicle engulfed in flames until the fire department came. After the fire was extinguished very little was left of the vehicle. Basically a frame and engine was the only thing left. The vehicle had a little over 70k miles.
SERVICE POWER STERING AND SERVICE ESC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, LOST POWER STERRING. AFTER 30 MINUTES RESTRATED THE TRUCK AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. TOOK TO CHEVEROLET DEALER, THEY FOUND NO CODES AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, HAD NO SOLUTION FOR HELP, TOLD TO BRING BACK WHILE ITS DOING IT, YOU CAN NOT DRIVE IN THAT CONDITION. VEHICLE HAD 16,880.00 MILES ON IT WHEN PROBLEM OCCCURED,
While driving hauling trailer, tailgate randomly flew down, could have been very very bad had someone been behind me when wheel barrow flew out of the back. It severely damaged my tailgate when it flew down, and then got wedged between top of trailor.
Total engine replacement at 62k. The junk lifter system government regulation has compromised our Vehicles. Active fuel management systems are used expensive trash changes to our American motors that generate extreme hardship for single vehicle owners.
Vehicle is burning oil. I drove 300 miles and had a low oil message pop up. Vehicle still had 50% oil life left.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, there was an abnormal sound from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and was repaired. The contact was concerned that the serpentine belt had failed twice. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,500.
Power steering stopped working while making a left hand turn. Pulled to the side of the road, turned off engine. Looked in Owners Manual, no mention of electric power steering, or where to put steering fluid. Restarted engine and steering worked. Went online and found possible chassis/frame ground issue. Ground cable on RH side behind front tire was corroded badly. Went to the dealer for a new ground strap, the dealer had 1 right under the counter. new strap appears to be plated, is this a known issue?
I took my truck in for an oil change on 5/25 and 12 miles after words, my truck was thrown into reduced engine power mode, which dropped my speed unexpectedly as I was driving. Luckily, I was in a residential area so that did not affect my safety, but there is potential that someone could have this code come up on the highway and have their vehicle unexpectedly throttled in regards to speed. The reduced engine power mode was the result of a code related to an electrical issue that ended up being the coolant control valve for the engine. I took it to a Chevrolet dealership that did the oil change, and they inspected it and determined that that part was faulty And would need to be repaired. The problem comes intermittently because The dealership drove my truck some and the issue would occasionally go away. As the part needed is on a seven month back order, the vehicle is available for inspection if needed.
Problem started while driving on the highway, I was speeding up from the ramp to merge into the highway. As I got to 62 mph the dashboard started blinking that i could only go up to 62 mph max. Cruise control was not on. I drove to my destination at that speed with the message on the dashboard. I arrived at my destination, parked, turned it off, a couple of hours later turned it on to drive again. At this point, the dashboard message was that I could only drive it max speed 42 mph and "service tire monitor system" I towed to my mechanic given i could not drive at that speed on the highway back home. The mechanic said it was time for a brake change and that might be the issue. He changed all the brake pads and rotors and the truck drove fine again for less than a week. As i was getting on the highway, the truck started to jerk like it wanted to stop as i was speeding up, i was going 45 mph. There was a clanking sound coming from the engine. Then multiple things started flashing on the dashboard; check engine, traction control, messages reading "service parking brake" and "service ESC" I turned the truck off for a couple of minutes on the highway shoulder. Turned it back on, the same messages were still on the dash. I again could only drive it max in the 40's mph. The faster I tried to go, the more heavy and forced the truck felt. I had to park it over night in a parking lot. The next day i scheduled an appointment with a mechanic in town who checked it and said i would be need
I have a 3.0 LTRe Dura Max issue is if the (Timing Belt ) or actually the oil pump drive belt breaks the engine will lose power if this happens in the middle of an intersection or major highway you will loose total power
The rear third brake light spoiler leaks causing damage to my headliner and vehicle. I have researched this and it appears to be a known issue to GM. However, GM is saying that my vehicle is not affected as of yet. I had an estimate completed on the vehicle by a local body shop. They believe the issue involves the spoiler assembly nuts not being properly tightened and sealed by the manufacturer. A repair will cost approximately $593.63.
While driving on the interstate, my entire display panel/information queue lit up and my information display issued crazy and bizarre warnings. When this happened (I was traveling around 60 mph) immediately pulled off on an exit only to find that my brakes were out/nonexistent and my emergency break button not responding. Luckily and by the grace of God, there were no other vehicles or pedestrians in my line of travel on this exit, the exit fortunately happened to be on an uphill incline/climb which aided in slowing my truck to slow down to a complete stop, and neither I or any other person or vehicles were harmed during this incident. Was told by the Jim Ellis Chevrolet of Atlanta Chevrolet Service Manager (who by the way was a great help and resource through all of this) informed that there was a software “glitch” that had caused all this to happen. I never was told of or was informed of any software “updates” nor had any Chevrolet Dealer Service Department updated this software “glitch” when my truck was given to them for all GM mileage-tiered full service recommendations.
The tailgate opens up while vehicle is in drive. No warning lights come on, the only way I knew is that people driving beside us flagged us down. The pickup bed was full of our luggage… luckily, nothing fell out. This has happened at least 3-4 times. The last time, we were towing our travel trailer, the tailgate opened up while we were driving and got caught on our tongue jack and propane tanks…damaging the tailgate and propane tanks.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering, made an abnormal clunking sound, and lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the nearest independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine had experienced an internal failure. The mechanic determined that the crankshaft, the lifters, an unknown valve, and other unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
While driving brakes failed and codes came on saying brake system failure 43 mph, this problem apparently is a programming issue that will cost over 600 dollars because “reprogramming” isn’t covered. Brake pads were over 50% life and it is a very dangerous error.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the “ESC Unavailable”, 'ABS Failure', and “Do Not drive over 62 MPH”, “Please Drive with Care” messages were displayed. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal remained on the floorboard. The contact stated that the braking distance was extended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,699.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the rear tailgate door erroneously opened. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on 4 separate occasions and items had fallen from the vehicle while in motion. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. Around 35k miles had an engine lifter fail and needed to be replaced, covered under warranty. 07/2023 - Had front pads/rotors replaced by Chevy dealer and had loud squeaking ever since. Contacted dealer and was told they are new pads so will just need time to break in. Contacted the dealer again in Sept.Oct. 2023 and brought vehicle in for service for noise concern. They informed me the noise is coming from the rear brakes that was reported as 60% life two months prior. They replaced the rear rotors/pads and noise persisted. Brought vehicle back to dealer in December, they performed a serviced but was ineffective. In March 24 started getting some vibrations when stopping. Brought vehicle for servicing, stated there are rust spots on rotors but everything is wearing fine so this will not be covered under warranty. Also that they do not warranty sounds due to pads can have more metallics then others and they cannot determine which ones do not. I looked under forums and GM Pads seem to be a common issue with noise. My truck was perfectly fine before these brake products were installed and I would like GM to be held accountable for there inferior products leading to loud break noises and violent vibrations while braking !

Check engine light came on, I plugged my code reader in and was given P0498 ERROR CODE. Upon doing research and calling around to 3 different Chevrolet service centers I was told that it is a know issue with the fuel pump control module on all gm trucks. I am part of a truck group of over 150 and 85 of us has had this issue and all are currently waiting for the part to come in which is back ordered over months. Why has there been no recall and service bulletins yet if all 3 of the service managers agreed of the known issue.
I purchased my vehicle from Southern Pines NC and at the time it had 12k miles on it. At about 40K I started having transmission problems. It would hard shift in 1st and 2nd gears. It also would not go into reverse. Hendrix Chevy had my vehicle multiple times attempting to fix things. Telling me it was not the transmission etc etc. My power train warranty expired at 60K. I have asked for my complete service records multiple times. I have paid out a lot of money due to it "not being the transmission". The last time it was there the manager Matt took it home and said the changed the transmission fluid which was very dirty. Almost trying to say I had done something to make it that way however in the service history they had it almost the entire month due to issues. I got it back and my brakes went out while driving. I was able to cost to a stop. I was at my limit. I called Matt and said come and get this vehicle. I want Chevy to take it back. They kept the vehicle for almost 2 weeks. Matt said he personally drove it home and it was fixed. I picked it up and I have not had any issues for about 8 months or. Now my power train warranty is expired and my vehicle is again doing the same things it was when I took it in at 40k. It now has 85k. It is hard shifting in 1st and 2nd. It is rolling when in drive. I also have had many body parts that have come off etc. I called Chevy today to again get my service records. I stil have not gotten them. I just want a reliable vehicle. I feel lik
Water leak above the rear sliding window has soaked into carpet & upper roof inner lining panel.
A/C blower motor over heated and caught the electrical wires on fire under the dash. I had just left my house for work about 1 mile from home and the dash started smoking then a fire started under the passenger side glovebox parked the car in the middle of the street and I was able to exit the vehicle and put the fire out with a half bottle of water I had in the car. I then called 911 and I believe it was EAST Pierce fire department. They shortly arrived and confirmed it was an electrical fire and that there was no more heat coming from it. The fire department then gave me A ride home. The vehicle has been towed to Sunset Chevrolet in Sumner Washington where the Vehicle was purchased New in 2020.

Fuel pump control module (13540028) went out no open recalls however they are national back order with no eta so this is an ongoing issue... SO NOW NO TRUCK FOR MONTHS AS THEY TELL ME ITS ON INTERGALATIC BACK ORDER.
The trucks installed trailer wiring can cause a traffic accident. The wiring harness is known to have electrical issues but is not being corrected under warranty. It is difficult to know of these issues until you hook up a trailer or camper. The trailer's brake light and turn signal are affected by the faulty wiring. The dealer narrowed the problem to being between the plug and fuse. Other people have voiced their concerns with the trailer wiring.
The DEF system tank and heater tube/wiring assembly need to be replaced due to the wiring melting. There should be larger wires or a fuse to prevent this. The system is tied to the Emission Controls system in the vehicle. When this happened I was warned on my dash display I had only 165 miles remaining at 65mph, and presumably slower thereafter. I live in Alaska, we travel long distances, sometimes in extreme cold temperatures and always far from help; even cell service if away from urban centers. I find it unacceptable my truck can decide to strand myself and/or family (3 children under 5) based on emissions, not run-ability. The temperatures in Alaska have been severely cold a couple weeks ago when this issue came up. The issue is confirmed by the dealership and is a known issue in the diesel community. Apparently it is a known issue for diesels in cold weather. Diesel is common in cold weather so the issue is perplexing at best. The vehicle has never been inspected by any one other than myself, a mechanic and the dealer. There were no warning lamps, only the dash warning the emission system needed service.
When you try and start the truck, the instrument panel lights up fully but when you push to start the instrument panel dims and acts like the battery is dead and won’t crank. The engine light is on. After a few presses, it finally cranks and starts fully. Has happened repeatedly and randomly.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
