Defect. TIMPTE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2011 TDH TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH ALUMINUM UPPER COUPLERS. THESE TRAILERS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO FRACTURE SOME OF THE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS OF THE UPPER COUPLER.

Risk. THIS COULD CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE UPPER COUPLER INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY TO THE DRIVER.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL INSTALL UPDATED REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS TO THE MAIN BEAM AND FRONT SUPPORT CHANNELS TO PREVENT POSSIBLE FAILURES. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 5, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TIMPTE AT 1-402-367-3056.

The contact owns a 2011 Timpte Trailer. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the VIN decal stated that the trailer had an 8,000-pound axle weight capacity; however, the contact became aware that the trailer had a 7,000-pound axle weight capacity. The dealer was contacted and stated that an 8,000-pound axle trailer could carry the same weight as a 7,000-axle trailer. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue.
