Part 573 reports
Filed Jun 13, 20191,701 vehiclesErwin Hymer Group North America, Inc.

Defect. Erwin Hymer Group North America, Inc. (Erwin Hymer) is recalling 2013-2019 Roadtrek E-Trek, RS Adventurous, CS Adventurous, and TS Adventurous motorhomes built on Sprinter chassis and equipped with one or two second row captain's chairs, with integrated seat belts. The seat pedestal base anchor brackets to the chassis fame may not have enough strength to prevent the seat and seat belt from moving in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages" and 207, "Seating Systems."

Risk. In the event of a crash, the second-row captain seats may not provide adequate protection for occupants, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy. Dealers will remove the seatbelt(s) in the affected units and install a label, which advises that the second-row seat is not to be occupied while the vehicle is in motion. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners may contact Erwin Hymer customer service at 1-844-464-3735. Erwin Hymer's number for this recall is 2019-01.

These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde E10 or EH10 Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher.

Remedy. Erwin Hymer will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 8, 2018. The DPF weld failed, driver and children stranded in no cell area. Hot Exhaust emitted melting the entire CAN wiring network of the coach. This follows a turbo failure/dealership repair that led to another breakdown stranding another driver, resulting in another tow ( ALL BELTS shredded because in the first repair the tensioner was not secured) $9000 repair. Transmission oil leak fixed but less than 4000 miles later, this coach broke down and displayed problems that were supposed to have been fixed. 3 Dealership service centers involved: Mercedes Benz St George 9-2026; Warner Vans 9-2026; Warner Vans 3-20-2026, Mercedes Westminister, CO( documented coach in excellent condition, video shows DPF in tact, but less than 1000 miles later, the WELD snapped leading to major damages. MERCEDES SPRINTERS are a critical SAFETY HAZARD as there are still numerous EMISSIONS, and EXHAUST design problems that are leading to breakdowns, without check engine lights, stranded people at night, disrupting businesses, and their recall and extended warranty systems are inadequate to antiicipate problems. The current DPF "insufficient weld" recall is for 2017-2018 based Sprinters. I DOUBT that the DPF part was made by a different manufacturer in 2015-2017. I have owned a fleet of Sprinters ( over 20) and they are campervans on the Sprinter chassis. So the campervan year is always 1-2 yrs later that the chassis year. I have cases of documentation on EMISSION failures, TURBO failures, Exhaust and Emis

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
