Filed Sep 29, 202614 vehiclesRivian Automotive, LLC

Defect. Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2027 R2 vehicles. A high voltage battery fastener may have been improperly tightened, causing a loss of drive power.

Risk. A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Rivian will inspect and repair the connection or replace damaged components as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 28, 2026. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1888. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 28, 2026.

Defect. Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2027 R1S, 2022-2026 R1T, and 2027 R2 vehicles. The rearview camera image may be obstructed by a notification when in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk. An obstructed rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Rivian has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 9, 2026. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1866. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 9, 2026.

I have a Rivian R2 bought recently on Oct 11. I noticed a problem that could impact safety while driving. Hood reflects the sunlight on to the drivers eyes and make it hard to see infront of the car. I was able to drive with handsfree, but this is a safety risk. Please take this request seriously and assess the safety of operating Rivian R2 when sunlight reflects from the hood

My 2027 Rivian R2 experienced uncontrolled acceleration to approximately 95 mph in a 55 mph zone. The incident lasted approximately 50 seconds, with uncontrolled power output despite simultaneous hard braking. I pressed the brake pedal as hard as I could. Burning fumes developed while I tried to regain control. We have in-cabin video with audio. I provided Rivian more than 40 seconds of footage showing power-output and braking indications during my braking attempts. Near the end, I deliberately moved the drive stalk vertically upward, unlike my previous horizontal movements. I experienced the apparent release of propulsion afterward. The recording captures the associated click and camera movement; green regeneration/braking is already displayed when the instrument panel returns to view. The attached report isolates a 400 ms (0.40-second) audio/video review window, 0.8% of 50 seconds. The exact power-disengagement time is obscured and requires telemetry. Rivian's verbal engineering findings omitted this distinct upward action despite my supplying the trimmed video and commentary on September 21, acknowledged September 22. Instead, I was told there were 13 stalk movements, followed four seconds later by power disengagement. Despite repeated requests, I have not received raw telemetry data despite Rivian referencing that they have it. Rivian has communicated that the vehicle is safe, but this unresolved sequence, that is a statistical anomaly (an action within milliseconds follo

Uncontrolled acceleration for approximately 50-seconds. In-cabin video shows the immediate moment of power disengagement after an upward stalk motion occurs (that controls the vehicle's drive modes). Rivian's report omitted this, despite being sent the trimmed 1-second clip (should be watched in slow-motion and/or frame-by-frame to view the HUD and action). Speeds reached over 90-mph. HUD clearly shows simultaneous braking and power output. Rivian's statement is that it is simply incorrect installation of floor mats; however, their engineering report omits the direct correlation (in millesonds) of the video showing immediate disengagement using the drive-stalk to attempt to disengage power. I have two videos that I can subsequently share.

My Rivian R2’s passenger airbag sensor does not properly and consistently detect a passenger weighing 102lb. It also has had prior issues with a passenger weighing 120lbs. The sensor only works when the 102lb passenger slams her body weight down on the seat and then immediately buckles in. This puts her safety at risk. Rivian has inspected the seat and sensor twice and refused to replace for fear of the same problem happening again anyway. They have told me the sensor is working as designed.

Air Bags
Filed Sep 21, 2026AZ

I am reporting a suspected passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) malfunction in my 2027 Rivian R2, delivered September 5, 2026. Shortly after delivery, "Passenger Airbag OFF" repeatedly remained displayed with my adult passenger sitting upright and centered, with her back against the seatback. She was approximately 125 lb initially and weighed 127 lb at our latest check. Despite following Rivian's seating guidance, I estimate the OFF indication is present more than 90% of the time. This frequency is my observation, not a Rivian measurement. I am concerned the passenger frontal airbag may be suppressed for a properly seated adult and may not protect her in a crash. The Tempe, Arizona Rivian Service Center inspected the vehicle September 8 and September 14-17, 2026. Rivian found no related diagnostic faults and concluded the OCS was "operating as designed"/"No Trouble Found." The second work order records my complaint that the airbag did not turn on around 90% of the time. The reports do not document reproduction with my passenger seated normally. The condition continued after the vehicle was returned September 17. I requested engineering/safety escalation through Rivian Service Support. The representative forwarded the concern to service-center management, promised a callback within 24-48 hours, and scheduled a third visit for September 28. Engineering involvement was not confirmed. The concern remains unresolved. The recurring OFF indication is the symptom prompting

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
