NHTSA campaign 95V226000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Holiday Rambler Corp.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Holiday Rambler Corp. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 30, 1995 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 301. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

THE FEDERAL CERTIFICATION LABEL OVERSTATES THE GROSS AXLE WEIGHT RATING (GAWR) AS 5,000 LBS. THE CORRECT GAWR IS 4,670 LBS. THIS DOES NOT CONFORM TO FMVSS NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS."

The risk

CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: THE LOAD RATING FOR THE TIRES AND ATIRES PRESSURES DESIGNATED ON THE FEDERAL CERTIFICATION LABEL ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE INCORRECTLY STATED GAWR. INCORRECT TIRE AND TIRE INFLATIONS CAN RESULT IN TIRE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

The remedy

OWNERS WILL BE SENT REPLACEMENT CERTIFICATION LABELS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACING THEM. IF THEY PREFER, OWNERS CAN HAVE THEIR DEALERS REPLACE THESE LABELS FOR THEM.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 95V226000.
