NHTSA campaign 94V079000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Gulf Stream Coach Inc.: Vehicle Speed Control

Gulf Stream Coach Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 25, 1994 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 302. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

THE HEAT SHIELD WHICH PREVENTS THE THROTTLE CABLE FROM COMING INTO DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS OMITTED. ALSO, THERE IS INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE THROTTLE CABLE AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. IN EITHER CASE, THE HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD DAMAGES THE THROTTLE CABLE, CAUSING IT TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO OPERATE OR CEASE OPERATING, NOT ALLOWING THE ASSEMBLY TO RETURN TO IDLE WHEN PRESSURE IS REMOVED FROM THE GAS PEDAL.

The risk

IF THIS OCCURS, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL CAN BE EXPERIENCED, WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL A STANDOFF BRACKET TO INCREASE THE CLEARANCE OF THE THROTTLE CABLES FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 94V079000.
