NHTSA campaign 26V512000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing: Electrical System

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 6, 2026 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 407. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2026 bZ Woodland vehicles equipped with a tow converter. An electrical short circuit may occur within the tow converter printed circuit board, which can deactivate the electronic stability control system and cause the brake lights to remain illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards numbers 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems for Light Vehicles” and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The risk

Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system or continuously illuminated brake lights can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will replace the tow converter, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 30, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TB15 and 26TA15.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 26V512000.
