NHTSA campaign 26V176000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Coaches North America: Electrical System › Wiring › Switches/Knobs/Buttons

Daimler Coaches North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 23, 2026 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 511. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Coaches North America (Daimler Coaches) is recalling certain 2009-2020 Setra S417 and 2012-2019 Setra S407 vehicles. The switches for the hazard warning lights, defroster, heating and air conditioning system, and fan speed may fail to illuminate correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."

The risk

The driver may be distracted by switches that are too bright or by searching for switches that are too dim or not illuminated, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Daimler Coaches will repair the hazard warning lights switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2026. Owners may contact Daimler Coaches' customer service at 1-416-624-3558.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 26V176000.
