NHTSA campaign 25V427000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Mack Trucks, Inc.: Electrical System › Software

Mack Trucks, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 23, 2025 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 148. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2024-2026 Mack MD vehicles. When the Controller Area Network (CAN) communications are interrupted, the throttle signal from the electro mobility control unit may retain the last known throttle setting, and the engine will not return to idle as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."

The risk

An engine that does not return to idle quickly enough can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will update the control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 14, 2025. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0481.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 25V427000.
