NHTSA campaign 24V385000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Vicinity Motor Corporation: Fuel System, Other

Vicinity Motor Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on May 30, 2024 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 28. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Vicinity Motor Corporation (Vicinity) is recalling certain 2017 Vi33 and 2022 Vi35 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The low-pressure CNG hoses and fittings are insufficient and may leak. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 304, "Compressed Natural Gas Fuel Container Integrity."

The risk

A compressed natural gas leak can result in a fire or explosion, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Owners are advised to remove the vehicles from service until the final remedy becomes available. Dealers will replace the low pressure CNG hoses, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed August 1, 2024. A second notice will be sent once the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact Vicinity customer service at 1-604-607-4000. Vicinity's number for this recall is CA-000-054.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 24V385000.
