Daimler Coaches North America: Equipment Adaptive/Mobility › Wheelchair Lift/Ramp

Daimler Coaches North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 18, 2024 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 79. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Coaches North America (Daimler Coaches) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Setra S417 TC and 2012-2016 Setra S 407 CC vehicles equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."

The risk

Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Daimler Coaches will replace the TWS kits, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 23, 2024. Owners may contact Daimler Coaches at 1-416-624-3558. Daimler Coaches number for this recall is 86.20U24286A.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 24V277000.
