NHTSA campaign 23V685000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Hyundai Translead: Structure

Hyundai Translead reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 12, 2023 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 562. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Hyundai Translead is recalling certain 2022-2024 CGN3-20/40 and CGNS-20/40 12-Pin extended chassis. The cross braces located above the chassis air tanks may have been improperly welded.

The risk

An improperly welded cross brace can detach from the vehicle, creating a road hazard. A falling cross brace may also damage the air tank airline, causing an unintended brake lock. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Hyundai Translead will work with owners and repair shops to apply welds and install brackets on cross braces, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 19, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai Translead customer service at 1-800-251-0871.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 23V685000.
