NHTSA campaign 23V536000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Rosenbauer America: Equipment › Mechanical › Winch

Rosenbauer America reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 31, 2023 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 13. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Rosenbauer America (Rosenbauer) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Commercial F-550, 2022 Commercial M2-106, M2-112, Commercial 567, 2021 Commander, and Avenger vehicles equipped with certain Warn Industries VR EVO winches with a wireless handheld remote. Water may enter the handheld remote control for the winch and cause circuit board corrosion, which can allow the winch to operate unintentionally.

The risk

A winch that operates unintentionally increases the risk of injury.

The remedy

Rosenbauer will notify owners and provide instructions for inspecting the remote for corrosion, disabling the wireless function, and ordering a new wired remote if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 25, 2023. Owners may contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 23V536000.
