NHTSA campaign 23V355000 · Part 573 safety recall report

VinFast Auto, LLC: Electrical System › Instrument Cluster/Panel

VinFast Auto, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on May 18, 2023 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 999. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

VinFast Auto, LLC (VinFast) is recalling certain 2023 VF8 vehicles. A software error may cause the multifunction head unit (MHU) display to go blank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays."

The risk

A blank MHU display will not show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, which may increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

VinFast will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 1, 2023. Owners may contact VinFast customer service at 1-833-503-0600. VinFast's number for this recall is VPAC-74.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 23V355000.
