Daimler Trucks North America, LLC: Electrical System › Instrument Cluster/Panel
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on May 16, 2023 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 47. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2023 Western Star 57X vehicles. The interior turn signals may flash too quickly and not align with the exterior turn signal flashing. Interior turn signals that consistently flash too quickly may not change their flash rate to alert the driver to replace the bulbs. An exterior turn signal bulb that is burnt out will not illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk
A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal may not notify other drivers of a turning vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Dealers will update the turn signal indicator software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 13, 2023. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL975.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 23V348000.
