NHTSA campaign 23V005000 · Part 573 safety recall report

ABS Remorques: Trailer Hitches

ABS Remorques reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 13, 2023 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 34. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ABS Remorques (ABS) is recalling certain 2014-2023 RC, WC, LRC, and LWC semi-trailers. The coupling plate may deteriorate, resulting in failure of the king pin and trailer detachment.

The risk

A detached trailer cannot be controlled and may overturn or obstruct the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Semi-trailer owners are advised to inspect for any coupling plate or king pin damage prior to operation. If damage is found, owners should not operate the trailer until it has been repaired. ABS authorized service facilities will replace the coupling plates, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 2, 2023. Owners may contact ABS customer service at 819-879-6216.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 23V005000.
