NHTSA campaign 22V794000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Altec Industries, Inc.: Equipment › Mechanical › Boom/Crane/Ladder

Altec Industries, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 21, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 71. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2019-2022 AT41ME aerial devices. The material handling interlocking valve may lose power when the outriggers are not set, allowing the jib winch to be operated while the outriggers are up.

The risk

Outriggers that are not set when loads are being lifted by the jib winch may cause the unit to tip, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Altec will install a visual indication system to show when the outriggers are set or not set, and provide a new pre-operational inspection placard, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 16, 2022. Owners may contact Altec's customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 3030.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V794000.
