NHTSA campaign 22V785000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Shyft Group: Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Reservoir/Tank

Shyft Group reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 19, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 540. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2021-2023 Spartan K2 RV Chassis. The air brake supply reservoir is less than 12x the combined volume of air for all service brake chambers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

The risk

The undersized air brake supply reservoir may provide an insufficient air supply to properly operate the brakes during repetitive braking, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Shyft Group will replace the air supply reservoir, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 23, 2022. Owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 22-14.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V785000.
