NHTSA campaign 22V743000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Bentley Motors, Inc.: Back Over Prevention › Display Function

Bentley Motors, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 5, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3,134. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Bentley Motors, Inc. (Bentley) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bentayga vehicles. Due to a software error, the rearview camera image may be blank when the car is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The risk

A rearview camera screen that displays a blank image reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will update the infotainment unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 17, 2022. Owners may contact Bentley customer service at 1-800-877-6923. Bentley's number for this recall is RE22/29 (RC54).

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V743000.
