Shyft Group: Engine and Engine Cooling › Engine › Engine Control Module (ecu/Ecm)

Shyft Group reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 8, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 38. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2023 Spartan RV Chassis K2 vehicles. The engine control module (ECM) may experience an internal short-circuit, which can result in an unexpected engine shut down without the ability to restart the vehicle.

An unexpected engine shut down can increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a disabled school bus may require an evacuation procedure in an uncontrolled traffic situation, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

The remedy

Cummins will replace the ECM and fuse, free of charge. Owners may contact Shyft Group's customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 22-05.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V599000.
