NHTSA campaign 22V328000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Great Dane Trailers: Equipment › Other › Labels

Great Dane Trailers reported this defect to federal regulators on May 12, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 72. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2019 Freedom Platform trailers. The platform trailers may have been produced without a rear impact guard (RIG) certification plate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 223, "Rear Impact Guards", and 224, "Rear Impact Protection."

The risk

Rear impact guards with missing plates may not be identified in the event of a safety recall, potentially resulting in an un-remedied safety issue and an increased risk of a crash or injury.

The remedy

Dealers will provide new RIG certification plates stamped with the trailer date of manufacture, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 24, 2022. Owners may contact Great Dane's customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V328000.
