NHTSA campaign 22V159000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Great Dane Trailers: Suspension › Critical Fasteners

Great Dane Trailers reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 15, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,261. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2022 Champion Dry Van and Everest Refrigerated trailers. The suspension radius rod mounting bolts were not properly tightened, which could allow the bolts to come loose and fall out.

The risk

Loose or missing bolts can cause the suspension to shift rearward, resulting in a loss of vehicle control. In addition, bolts that fall off can become a road hazard. Both of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will inspect and tighten the radius rod fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 20, 2022. Owners may contact Great Dane's customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V159000.
