General Motors, LLC: Exterior Lighting › Tail Lights
General Motors, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 10, 2022 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 9. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Hummer EV vehicles. Taillight software can cause one or both rear taillights to become inoperative, or remain fully or partially illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk
A taillight that fails to illuminate or illuminates incorrectly may reduce the visibility of the vehicle, or communicate incorrect information to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace as necessary, the left and/or right rear taillight assemblies. Owner notification letters were not required but all vehicles were remedied as of March 17, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222359830.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 22V141000.
