NHTSA campaign 21V943000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Great Dane Trailers: Wheels › Hub

Great Dane Trailers reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 7, 2021 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3,288. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2022 Champion dry van and Everest refrigerated trailers. The wheel hubs may have an insufficient amount of lubrication, which could cause the hub bearings to fail.

The risk

Hub bearing failure could cause the wheel hub assembly to detach, causing a loss of stability and control, creating a road hazard, and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Great Dane will work with SAF Holland, the wheel hub supplier, to inspect the wheel hubs and add the proper amount of lubricant as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 25, 2022. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 21V943000.
