Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels
Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 8, 2021 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 468. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Star Trans school buses. The rear emergency exit window labels are not in the correct location and only provide instructions for one release mechanism, instead of two release mechanisms. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."
The risk
In an emergency, the incorrect window label instructions may prevent or delay the use of the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
The remedy
Dealers will install new labels on the rear emergency exit windows, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 22, 2022. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-800-348-7440. Forest River's number for this recall is 05-0171.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 21V786000.
