NHTSA campaign 21V307000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Arcimoto Inc: Steering › Linkages › Arm › Idler and Attachment

Arcimoto Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on May 3, 2021 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 261. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Arcimoto Inc (Arcimoto) is recalling certain 2019-2021 FUV, 2020 Deliverator, 2020-2021 Roadster, and 2021 Rapid Responder motorcycles. The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) may have been incorrectly calibrated, causing the SAS to fail to or incorrectly detect a fault.

The risk

The inverters may apply unequal torque after a failure mode is detected, causing over steer and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

A service technician will update the firmware and replace the idler arm, free of charge. Arcimoto does not intend to send any dealer or distributor notifications, as it has neither dealers nor distributors at this time. Owner notification letters were mailed May 27, 2021. Owners may contact Arcimoto customer service at 1-541-683-6293.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 21V307000.
