ARBOC Specialty Vehicles, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 18, 2021 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 41. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ARBOC Specialty Vehicles, LLC (ARBOC) is recalling certain 2018-2021 Spirit of Equess buses equipped with Cummins Westport Inc. B6.7N natural gas engines. The engine control module software may be calibrated incorrectly, causing the engine to not limit engine speed or torque as intended for certain safety-related functions such as vehicle braking, traction and stability control, speed control, or collision avoidance.

The risk

If safety-related functions such as vehicle braking, stability, speed, and collision avoidance do not function properly, it can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

ARBOC will work with the engine manufacturer, Cummins, Inc., to notify owners, and Cummins dealers will recalibrate the engine control module, free of charge. The recall began April 5, 2021. Owners may contact ARBOC customer service at 1-866-953-5555.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 21V187000.
