Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing: Fuel System, Gasoline › Storage › Tank Assembly › Filler Pipe and Cap

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 3, 2021 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,081. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Lexus) is recalling certain 2019 Lexus RX350 and 2021 RX350 vehicles. The transport hook may not have been removed prior to sale. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 301, "Fuel System Integrity."

The risk

During a rear-end crash, the transport hook can damage the fuel filler pipe, increasing the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Lexus will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, remove the rear transport hook, free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Lexus customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Lexus' number for this recall is 21LA01.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 21V043000.
