Shyft Group: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Lever and Linkage › Column Shift

Shyft Group reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 28, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 5. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Shyft Group (Shyft) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Utilimaster Ram ProMaster fleet vehicles. The transmission shifter cable may separate and disconnect from the transmission, causing the vehicle to not perform shifts intended by the driver and the gear shift lever position not matching the actual transmission gear.

The risk

The driver may be unaware of the actual gear position and unintended vehicle movement can occur, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Shyft will notify owners, and FCA dealers will replace the transmission shift cable, free of charge. The recall began December 21, 2020. Owners may contact Shyft Group at 1-800-582-3454. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 20-08.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V592000.
