NHTSA campaign 20V578000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Motor Coach Industries: Seat Belts

Motor Coach Industries reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 23, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 56. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2019 D45CRT-LE coaches. The seat belt retractors installed in the last row of the passenger seats may not function properly, preventing them from being used. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

The risk

The inability to use the seat belts could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision.

The remedy

MCI will notify owners, and the seat belt manufacturer will modify the seat belt installation for the last row of seats, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2020. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947. MCI's number for this recall is SB 490.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V578000.
