NHTSA campaign 20V425000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Tropos Technologies, Inc.: Back Over Prevention › Sensing System › Camera

Tropos Technologies, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 22, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 66. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Tropos Technologies, Inc. (Tropos) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Able low-speed vehicles. The back-up camera may not provide a sufficient view angle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The risk

The reduced view angle of the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash or back-over incident.

The remedy

Tropos will notify owners, and dealers will replace the camera, free of any charge. The recall began July 24, 2020. Owners may contact Tropos customer service at 1-408-571-6104. Tropos' number for this recall is TRO-20-01.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V425000.
