NHTSA campaign 20V391000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Airstream, Inc.: Suspension › Multiple Axle

Airstream, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 2, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 145. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling certain model year 2020-2021 Airstream Atlas and Interstate motorhomes equipped with VB suspension systems. The lock portion of the countersink bolts attaching the VB Suspension system to the vehicle may be too long preventing the panhard rod bracket from fully contacting the springs, resulting in bolts absorbing the load instead of the bracket.

The risk

If the bolts carry the load rather than the bracket, it can cause them to break, affecting the vehicle handling and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Airstream will notify owners, and dealers will replace the suspension bolts, free of charge. This recall began August 26, 2020. Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V391000.
