NHTSA campaign 20V285000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Navistar, Inc.: Electrical System › Software

Navistar, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 20, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2,805. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2019-2020 International CV vehicles. Due to a software error, the Antilock Braking System (ABS) malfunction indicator does not light when there is a loss of communication between the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and the Body Control Module (BCM). As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems."

The risk

If the malfunction warning does not light, the driver may not be aware of an inoperative ABS or Automatic Traction Control (ATC) system, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will program the BCM software with a new calibration, free of charge. This recall began July 20, 2020. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 20505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V285000.
