NHTSA campaign 20V206000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Vac-Tron Equipment, LLC: Structure

Vac-Tron Equipment, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 8, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 50. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Vac-Tron Equipment, LLC. (Vac-Tron) is recalling certain 2012-2020 MC833SDT, MC835SDT, MC855SDT, and MC873SDT Vacuum Excavator Trailers. The trailers may not have an extended lower chassis, reducing rear impact protection. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 224, "Rear Impact Protection."

The risk

In the event of a rear impact crash, the other vehicle can travel under the rear of the vacuum excavator, increasing the risk of serious injury or death to someone in the other vehicle.

The remedy

Vac-Tron will notify owners, and Vermeer dealers will install remedy kits provided by Vac-Tron, free of charge. The recall began June 5, 2020. Owners may contact Vac-Tron customer service at 1-888-822-8766. Vac-Tron's number for this recall is VVK0006.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V206000.
