NHTSA campaign 20V195000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc.: Electrical System › Wiring

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 3, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2,399. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. (Isuzu) is recalling certain 2018-2020 FTR and Chevrolet 6500XD vehicles. The chassis wire harness outside the relay box may have been improperly routed, potentially allowing the harness to contact the suspension's leaf spring hanger bracket, allowing the harness to get chafed.

The risk

Depending on which wires get damaged, the vehicle can experience stalling and/or reduced functionality of the ABS, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Isuzu will notify owners, and dealers will repair or replace the existing wire harness, as necessary, and install additional clamps to ensure the wire harness is secured away from the hanger bracket, free of charge. The recall began May 15, 2020. Owners may contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638. Isuzu's number for this recall is V2003.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V195000.
