NHTSA campaign 20V046000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC.: Back Over Prevention › Sensing System › Camera

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 28, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 22. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2019 A220 and A220 4MATIC vehicles. In certain operating conditions, the rearview camera software may cause a delay in displaying the rearview camera image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply to Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

The risk

A delayed rearview camera display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the car, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. The recall began April 8, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2020030018.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V046000.
