NHTSA campaign 19V923000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Autocar, LLC: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Gear Position Indication (prndl)

Autocar, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 27, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 156. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Xspotter vehicles. Due to the placement of the shift pad, the shift pad may fail, and not display the transmission range or sequence. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence/Starter Interlock/Transmission Braking Effect."

The risk

If the shift pad display fails, the operator will not know the transmission range or sequence information, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The remedy

Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will relocate the shift pad, free of charge. Autocar issued owners an interim notification on February 24, 2020. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611 or 1-877-973-3486. Autocar's number for this recall is ACTT-2001.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V923000.
