NHTSA campaign 19V838000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Navistar, Inc.: Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Quick Release Valve

Navistar, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 21, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2020 International HV 6X4 vehicles. The vehicles were built with a non-Quick Release Modulator Valve (NQRMV) instead of a Quick Release Modulator Valve (QRMV), which may affect the brake release time. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

The risk

A longer time required to exhaust the brake chambers could increase the risk of a brake or tire fire.

The remedy

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the NQRMV with a QRMV, free of charge. The recall began January 9, 2020. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 19519.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V838000.
