NHTSA campaign 19V777000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Prevost Cars, Inc.: Electrical System › Instrument Cluster/Panel

Prevost Cars, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 29, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 110. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2020 X3-45 VIP, X3-45 VIP Entertainer, X3-45 Passenger, H3-45 VIP, and H3-45 Passenger coaches. Due to a missing component, the driver may not be able to adjust the brightness of the dash illumination for the controls and indicators, allowing only the highest level of brightness. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

The risk

During night time vehicle operation, highest level of dash brightness may reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will install the missing potentiometer component and required wiring to adjust the brightness of the dash's illumination, free of charge. The recall began November 28, 2019. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR19-42.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V777000.
