NHTSA campaign 19V718000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Electrical System › Instrument Cluster/Panel

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 10, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 7. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020 Thomas Built Buses Minotour school buses built on a GMC Savannah or Chevrolet Express chassis. The seatbelt-unfastened warning light will not illuminate for approximately five seconds after the ignition is moved to the "on" or "start" position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

The risk

Without the seatbelt warning reminder, the driver may forget to fasten the seatbelt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The remedy

GM will notify DTNA owners, and GM dealers will reprogram the instrument panel cluster, free of charge. The recall began October 3, 2019. Owners may GM customer service at 1-800-462-8782 contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-833.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V718000.
