NHTSA campaign 19V650000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Keystone RV Company: Structure › Emergency › Escape/Egress/Exit

Keystone RV Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 11, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 18. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2020 Cougar 30RKD trailers. The 60"x29" emergency exit windows over the dinette table in the cabin are missing a red handle and "EXIT" label.

The risk

If an emergency event occurs, trailer occupants may not be aware of the emergency exit function of the window, increasing the risk of an injury.

The remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will replace the existing black exit handles with red handles and add an "EXIT" label, free of charge. The recall began October 9, 2019. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 19-360.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V650000.
