Navistar, Inc.: Seat Belts
Navistar, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 21, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,035. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2011 IC Bus BE, CE, and RE school buses equipped with certain non-retractable passenger two-point seat belts. After long term buckling and unbuckling of the seat belt, the plastic fingers on the male portion of the buckle may crack and fall off, requiring excessive force to buckle the seat belt.
The risk
The seat belt may not easily buckle, increasing the risk of an injury in the event of a crash.
The remedy
Navistar will notify owners and dealers will replace the seat belt assemblies, free of charge. Navistar issued owners an interim notification on August 16, 2019. The recall began September 23, 2019. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V478000.
