NHTSA campaign 19V465000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Altec Industries Inc.: Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

Altec Industries Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 17, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 328. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2003-2019 Altec AD108 Cable handlers and HLIW-T Trailer Mounted Insulator Washer vehicles. The vehicles may be equipped with non-DOT brake line fittings that may leak at the air fittings. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 106, "Brake Hoses."

The risk

If the brake lines leak, the parking brake may drag, increasing the risk of crash.

The remedy

Altec will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the brake line air fittings if necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 31, 2019. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 723.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V465000.
