NHTSA campaign 19V137000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Electrical System › Instrument Cluster/Panel

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 27, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 43. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles equipped with an ICU3S Instrument Cluster and a DT12 automated manual transmission. When the transmission is shifted out of the Neutral (N) position, the instrument cluster will continue to display the "N" position.

The risk

The incorrect gear selection display may cause the operator to falsely assume that the truck is in neutral, possibly resulting in the truck moving unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the powertrain controller so that the correct gear selection displays in the instrument cluster, free of charge. The recall began August 7,2019. Owners can contact DTNA's customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-808.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V137000.
